Another emulator has closed its doors

the classic Nintendo game boy advance

Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Color emulator firm Pizza Emulators has said it is closing its doors on the Android emulator scene. Pizza Emulators has now removed the emulators from the Google Play Store on which they were hosted. Davide Berra shared the news in a message on Discord saying that the decision was made as he wanted “to prioritise my family over the development of my apps.” The Verge points out this move follows Yuzu’s $2.4 million settlement with Nintendo and the shutdown of 3DS emulator Citra.

“After seven incredible years of development and adventures with my apps, I have made the difficult decision to remove them permanently from the Play Store. My family comes first, and for this reason, I have chosen to prioritize my family over the development of my apps. I want to thank each and every one of you for your incredible support over the years. Your words of encouragement, feedback, and constant support have been a source of inspiration for me and my work. Thank you again for everything. You have been fantastic.”

    1. Fuck Nintendo. But .. yeah. Nintendo.. is one of the lesser consoles.. but.. that’s by choice.. they are capable of being a powerful system.. but there focus is mostly.. family oriented multiplayer.. I loved and used yuzu . A many of times.. but I always wondered when this company would get Nintendos attention.. hail yuzu..one of the
      great emulators ..

    2. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 Nintendo made it worse yuzu got forked like a gazillion times on GitHub and has just drawn like a million devs that hate capitalism anyways they already have plans to host privately so can’t be took down ….good job Nintendo

      1. There is nothing wrong with retro gaming. Nintendo just doesn’t want you to use emulators to play those retro games. Nintendo offers retro gaming on the Switch with a subscription. In Nintendo’s eyes, playing their products on intellectual property that is not owned by Nintendo is considered console theft even if you own the game and dump it yourself. Nintendo is like every other giant company that is out there. They are greedy, and only in it for the money. They don’t care about the fun of it. If any of their products console or game is available to anyone without Nintendo profiting from it, they will do anything to stop it. Once again, it’s about the damn money.

          1. For nintendo to sit and act like every one of those million downloads was a missed sale is absolutely wrong though. Sure there might be a few people who downloaded to play on a modded switch but I guarantee most of the people that downloaded it were emulator users and weren’t going to buy the game anyways. I get what you’re saying that they have a right to defend profits, but you’re not gonna get profit off people who don’t plan to be a part of that ecosystem anyways. Yuzu did fuck up by their devs sharing pirated rims and the such, but a lot of people just wanna play the game they bought on switch on hardware that can actually handle it. I did that with botw. It played like ass on the switch so I emulated the Wii u game in 1080p 60fps. The switch 2 is already obsolete and behind the curve so I doubt the piracy will stop

          1. You’re an idiot. People aren’t babies because they don’t agree with something a company did. Are you one of those losers who will defend the billionaires that don’t even know you exist or what? God forbid someone has an opinion on something they don’t agree with. Sounds like you missed milky this morning and need to skip right to nap time little grumpy guy.

          2. Complains about “man children replaying old games” but has a megaman x profile pic, which is it my guy, are you a man children too?

          3. Emulation itself isn’t illegal. Pirating roms is. Reverse engineering and emulation for the purposes of compatibility are legal in the US.

    1. You are projecting so hard. Acting like you’re not the dweeby manchild. The fact that you’re here at all and making a comment is proof of that. Grow up.

    3. Oh no. ‘tarded tourists can’t stop running their dumbass mouths about topics they fail to understand.

  1. I wonder if he’s aware there has been gba for android, better yet I wonder why’d it take him so long to realize he has a family, they don’t grow on trees you know…..

      1. What’s funny is Nintendo can’t do anything about gba emulation. It’s not illegal, atleast in the US to dump cartridges you own. He got scared for no reason unless he condones piracy in his app lol

    1. Open source??? 7 years huh…. for what? A current generation being emulated (switch) was gonna end badly with tears of the kingdom getting dumped online early. This is disheartening and just sad!

    1. I doubt it ever will, mGBA is opened sourced, and licenced by MPL which again is opened sourced. This guy got scared because he just signed a deal with Google to add his emulators to Google Play pass, and freaked out prematurely.

  2. There are still ways to play GBA, NDS & others. Besides it’s possible to always save a backup APK in case the app we currently use shuts down. As long as I can still play the old games I’m good! 😑since the United States or whatever might just go straight to digital sales which alot of people don’t really have the money for/to waste time on (PlayStation, P.C. Switch, Steam, Etc.)

  3. It’s not surprising, he just got a deal with Google to add both emulators to Google’s Play Pass, I’m sure that was a hefty bag for him. I’m sure that turned on sirens at Nintendo though. Oh well, I was able to download both premium versions so I’m good. But there should also be a few APK’s out there, assuming someone wants to go look for them.

  4. There is other alternatives, not sure what’s with all the fuss. Don’t even need to go page 2 on google to find it.
