Nintendo and Yuzu have mutual agreement where Yuzu will pay Nintendo $2.4 million

Yuzu and Nintendo have come to a mutual agreement which will see Yuzu paying $2.4 million in damages. This means that since both parties they have reached an agreement the case won’t end up going to court. Yuzu will need to destroy all copies of the Yuzu emulation software and will be forced to shut down entirely.

  1. But wait, according to all the legal experts in the comment sections on this site Nintendo didn’t have a case! Surely Yuzu should’ve hired these commenters as their lawyers!! SMH my head!

    1. Nobody said they didn’t have a case, just that it would be bad for preservation and emulation in general (NOT PIRACY).

        1. Yes, but hardware will inevitably fail someday. Also, If you want to play a gamecube game you cant’t buy one today.

          1. And when the hardware fails, it can be repaired.

GameCube games are still sold second hand and sold at places that do that. Not sure how they aren’t for sale, which is factually false. There’s even ones still sealed if that’s what you want. Sure you can’t buy them at retail price but you didn’t state that, just a blanket statement that you can’t buy them at all.

            1. OH TRUST ME BRO, YOU HAVE TO PAY 300 DOLLARS TO ENJOY THE WAHOO GAME AGAIN BECAUSE NINTENDO CAN’T RELEASE IT ON NEWER CONSOLE!!!!

              1. It’s an incredibly stupid and dumb argument to be against piracy of old Nintendo games, don’t bother it’s like talking to a brick wall

            2. Nope. It can’t always be repaired. Pieces stop being manufactured as well. You are kinda missing the forest by the trees. The point is that hardware has certain longevity, and software can easily “fix” that problem.

        1. no, but enchance? Absolutely the switch was already an old ass chip, give people the freedom to enjoy games how they want, I own a switch and smash, but yuzu and parsec online completely destroys Nintendo shitty online

    2. The validity of Nintendo’s claims has little bearing on their likelihood of winning, and absolutely zero on whether those responsible for Yuzu could realistically afford the proceedings.

By analogy, innocent people plead guilty all the time. It doesn’t suggest much beyond the fact that the deck is stacked.

  2. Well this sucks. I’m not worried though as someone said in a previous post: The source code is already out there so any one with the know how can take up the project and continue where Yuzu leaves off.

    1. Ye. Nintendo blasted the AM2R dev away from working on that project, and lo and behold not only did development continue by a different team, it also still exists in its entirety.

Same situation here. Switch emulation isn’t dead.

  3. Interesting. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if a new emulator comes along soon to replace Yuzu. Yuzu is open source, so it won’t be too difficult to replace (also there’s already another Switch emulator that many people use anyway, so)

  4. Yuzu and Citra (they are the same team) just shutdown their Discord channels, websites, and overall internet presence.

Ngl, kinda bummed that this affected Citra too

      1. Yeah. It is kinda sad that some people are seing this as a “win”. And some of them were the ones crying when the 3ds eshop closed begging nintendo not to take it down. (-_- )

  5. So how was this a peaceful settlement? Nintendo still gouged them a hefty sum. How does not setting foot in court make this any better?

    1. Depends on your perspective. If it goes to court, then the verdict can provide a new precedent on way or the other, depending on who wins. When it’s settled out of court, no new legal precedent is set and emulation remains in somewhat murky legal waters.

  6. Damn. You can’t beat emulation Nintendo, people will still play breath of the wild 4k 60 fps, you are just ruining other people lives for money!!!!!

    1. They are ruining pirates lives… Other people buy the games and enjoy them. Only ppl mad are ones angry they can’t pirate

      1. Oh man what terrible subhumans! People who makes emulators! Disgusting and vile! Nintendo should make a the legend of Zelda guillottine and cut the heads of these people! Never mind the fact that the majority of old Nintendo games are preserved thanks to these people! They all just bunch of pirates!

  7. You’d think after years and years, people would learn to stop making patreons or gofundmes for an unofficial Nintendo related project. Nintendo doesn’t go after emulators that have no way of profiting.

    1. I believe that you could still have the freedom to support these people but yeah, putting your latest emulator version behind a paywall is beyond scummy and they shouldn’t have done that

  8. Some still haven’t figured out or don’t want to understand that emulation in this case is totally illegal. Nintendo is within its rights whether you like it or not, but it’s in the nature of some here to defend thieves. And if you don’t know how to pay for a game, don’t buy it… If you steal a Ferrari, you’re going to tell the judge that it’s because you wanted it but you can’t afford it?

    1. And some people haven’t figured out that Yuzu didn’t provide or leak ROMs. If you wanna use the ferrari analogy It’s like the ferrari store manager got to court because someone commited a crime using said ferrari instead of the actual criminal.

    2. Nop. In this case is like taking the CEO of ferrari to court because someone comited a crime using a ferrari car while said criminal is unpunished.

      Yuzu never distributed roms.

  9. Weak ass teeth. Lol

No, but seriously. The lawyer probably told them they wouldn’t win because they were getting money from the emulator, giving Ninty an actual case. 🤷 Oh well.

Least emulation is safe for another day.

  10. Just to point out; It turns out that from screenshots of Discord messages, Yuzu was actually pirating games which is likely 1 of the main reasons to why Nintendo may have actually had a case and would likely win.
That said, I could be wrong on this, but I’ve quickly skimmed through the legal document and I can’t find any evidence that Yuzu will have to be destroyed. If anyone could give source me of this please do.
