Top producer of Dragon Quest stepping down from the role due to delays of DQ12

Bloomberg is reporting this morning that Yu Miyake is stepping down from the popular Dragon Quest franchise amid delays with the long-awaited next instalment, Dragon Quest 12. The news will come as a blow to fans of the long-running series. Mr. Miyake will instead focus on the company’s smartphone games division. Bloomberg concludes its report by saying that NieR series producer Yosuke Saito is currently the potential successor for the Dragon Quest producer role.

    1. Well that sucks, DQXI is probably the best new game Sqaure-Enix has released in over a decade and now DQXII will probably have nier-like changes to the series…ugh…

It’s bad enough SE has ruined the Final Fantasy series, but now DQ… Even the SaGa series was on the right track, a beautiful remaster of Romancing SaGa 2 and 3, and now it is garbage again (they took the lazy route and ported the horrible 3D Romancing SaGa 1 that everyone hated and to make things worse the latest SaGa game plays just like the second newest SaGa game instead of being a game worthy of the SaGa title.)

Yoshi-P is on the board of directors at Square-Enix, I bet that useless clown had something to do with ruining Dragon Quest XII like he ruined Final Fantasy XIV/XVI. (Seriously, he turned FFXIV in a FF circus instead of a real FF game, at least when Tanaka, aka the real creator of FFXIV, made FFXIV it felt like it’s own game, unlike Yoshi-P’s FFXIV which is loaded with content from other games instead of being a real FF game.)

  1. Anonymous Skywalker

I don’t know if they were gonna use Toriyama as the character designer or someone else, if they were then the delay would be part of it otherwise I don’t know. I do hope the delay will get them to focus on quality.

  2. I am not excited with the direction they are taking this version of DQ. if people wanted a darker, grimmer, more adult RPG there are plenty of existing franchises to meet that need. DQ is a bright, slightly silly, and fun adventure series. They are making a mistake trying to twist it into something else.
