Business Korea: Switch 2 could launch 2024 and uses Samsung components

Another Nintendo Switch 2 leak has emerged and this time it is from Business Korea. The Korean publication claims a number of things, including that we could be seeing the Switch 2 release at the end of the year after all. The site also says that Samsung is the main component provider for the platform and that the system will use NVIDIA’s Tegra T239 chip, which means it would be similar in power to Sony’s PlayStation 4 with some ray tracing capabilities and DLSS. You can read the main points from the article in this handy summary from Reddit member Fidler_2K:

Important points:

  • Switch 2 is expected to launch as early as the second half of this year
  • Suppliers have reportedly reached a considerable degree of agreement for initial production contracts.
  • Samsung Foundry will fabricate the SoC on Samsung’s 7LPH process node
  • Samsung will provide the NAND storage for both the cartridges and internal memory
  • Samsung has overcome competitors from China to be the display supplier

This information has also been corroborated by OreXda, primarily a leaker for Samsung Electronics products:

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to launch as early as the second half of this year. Significant contracts have already been negotiated in the component industry for initial production.
  • Tegra T239 – produced by Samsung Foundry 7LPH
  • Display – Samsung OLED
  • With the exception that LCD models may be released first (Using Sharp Display)

  1. A launch in 2024 while the console has still not been OFFICIALLY announced??!
…and you should know…are they Samsung components or not??the tegra 239 is an NVIDIA share!!!And there is a difference between “designed by” and “manufactured by”…

      1. It’s simple: NVIDIA developed and designed the tegra processor(This is also true for their RTX GPUs) but they don’t have assembly lines to manufacture them, so they delegate them to those who have them, in this case TSMC or samsung (to name but a few) so they manufacture them but these components don’t belong to them. If we “trust” these rumors, the only “component” (which is not a component) of samsung in this “switch 2″” would be its screen but certainly not its processor(s)

        1. So? There’s more that’s stated to be completely manufactured and designed by samsung including the RAM, NAND for cartridges and display

          1. If you take it like that…the components you cite are Samsung brands for the Switch…so it’s not a scoop : the “leaker” has not don’t look far…

        2. Sounds like that makes a lot of good sense here but will that ruin the system inputs and the hardware inside of it? It will make it much harder to let it run normally.

    1. “Tegra T239 – produced by Samsung Foundry 7LPH”
      Keyword: PRODUCED

This is common practice in the tech industry as Nvidia and AMD usually outsource their production of their chips to third party companies like Samsung, Foxcomm and so on, it’s not saying that the chip was MADE by Samsung, but rather the production of the chip will be in Samsung’s own factories.

    2. 6 months prior to the launch were enough with the previous Switch. I will wait until June ends to decide myself if I believe it will launch in 2024 or not, thanks.

    3. Well, The Switch was announced in late October of 2016 and released early March 2017. So that is only a 4-5 month turn around there. If Nintendo announces they next console in the Summer Nintendo Direct (most likely June) if they follow suit of the Switch that would put in right in the Holiday season.

  2. gotta say, power feels a little underwhelming… but i know will do miracles with that chip, the first party mario game will look absolutely gorgeous like odissey did on the tiny little switch

    1. According to some minor research on my end, it seems the chip will be more powerful than the PS4, however, don’t expect Xbox Series S levels, it’ll probably be weaker than that.

And I know the Xbox Series S looks weaker than the PS4 on the specs, but the hardware inside that console is far more powerful than the PS4 and even the PS4 Pro. Nintendo Switch 2 will likely be more powerful than the PS4 but just be on par with tthe PS4 Pro, however, with the DLSS 3.0 being a factor in the chip from recent “Leaks”, it’s probably a smarter chip than what the PS4 Pro was using.

We’re in an era in which chips on the Silicon level are faster and smarter than their specs say on paper.
Just don’t expect Native 4K at 30fps on the system, best it’ll probably do is an upscaled 4K which might help with frame rates

      1. i really am just satisfied with 60 fps 1080p and sharp images, that’s all i want, thanks for the research, pretty interesting stuff

    2. It’s really more about the long-term . The Switch is already hopeless outclassed by the other hybrids on the market, and many of those companies are gearing up to release more powerful successors. Regardless on how good 1st party Nintendo games may look, if the Switch 2 is not even as powerful as the BASE Steam Deck, that’s not gonna get it. What made the Switch successful was not the 1st-party titles, but the fact that it was a unique design. It had no competition. Now, there is a tidal-wave of competition.

There 1st-party line-up is not going to be enough to entice people that don’t have any allegiance to Nintendo to buy a Switch 2 over the substantially more powerful and more useful hybrids that are out there. There is also a strong possibility that Microsoft may announce a hybrid-PC, and if THAT happens………oof. A hybrid with Windows functionality and Game Pass? That would be a bad time for the Switch 2.

They should go ahead and release whatever they have, but they need something else on the drawing board. Either a powered-dock, or a mid-gen refresh, or even a set-top box.

      1. Except Microsoft already implied they likely won’t be making more consoles, or if they do it’ll be rarely. If anything it would be more likely to see Microsoft making a joint console with Nintendo that replaces the Dock with PC components; making the swtich screen equivalent function like a Will U gamepad for many games, but still being able to play on the go just with significantly less power.

  3. Why the radio silence from Nintendo if it’s (possibly) releasing this year? The year is already 1/3rd of the way over. Are they going to pull a SEGA Saturn?

    1. Yeah we haven’t even gotten a code name for said system, even if we don’t get a code name and they just immediately announced, they would still have to be able advertise it enough, honestly if it was coming out this year they should have start hyping it up around last month.

  4. Kinda was hoping they’d future proof it a bit…. Be stronger than ps4/pro I won’t see any PS5 gen games current and future AAA coming too it…. Besides early gen ports and back…. Switch had missed a lot of new AAA games it be nice to have them plus nintendos stuff

    1. I generally agree with you. But even in 2024 there are still lots of new game being released on PS4. All of the latest Atlus games are still being released on PS4 so those will definitely come to the Switch 2. Heck, 99% of japanese developed Next-Gen games will probably come to Switch 2 (sans maybe Square Enix’s AAA). That’s good enough for me.

  5. Rumor: I am Miyamoto and I’m selling the Switch 2 at my garage sale in two hours. I’ve left detailed instructions to my address in Super Mario Wonder. Good luck.

  6. It’s interesting how the Switch 2 is gearing up with Samsung tech. Should be a game changer. In the meantime, I found this AI image generator that might spark some creativity: UnPix

    1. Yeah, finally! I’ve been waiting for this Switch 2 news. I mean, my old one is barely hanging on, and if it’s using Samsung parts? That’s pretty rad. You might want to check this out for a quick tip on grabbing some Threads content to celebrate! ThreadsDL
