Fate/Stay Night Remastered summons its way onto Switch later this year

Kinoko Nasu’s Fate series, now a multimedia multi-billion dollar franchise, started off humble with 2004’s Fate/Stay Night. Like his previous work, Tsukihime, Nasu’s visual novel never made it outside of Japan. But like Tsukihime and its prequel Mahoutsukai no Yoru, FSN, as it’s often abbreviated to, will soon have found its way to the West: translated, remastered, and on Switch. Announced earlier this year with a 2024 release window, Fate/Stay Night Remastered will be based off the Realta Nua version of the game, a re-release (again exclusive to Japan) that removed adult content and refined other parts of the experience.

In the fictional Fuyuki City, the ritual of the Holy Grail War brings mages and ancient heroes together to fight for a chance to see their wishes fulfilled. Seven mages known as Masters summon seven heroes from legend and myth known as Servants to duel it out for the ultimate prize. Shirou Emiya, a regular highschooler wanting to be a hero of justice, finds himself wrapped up in the Fifth Holy Grail War when he accidentally summons a Saber class servant, the strongest of them all. and is left with no choice but to fight with his life to keep the Holy Grail from falling into the wrong hands. Three vastly different routes. Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven’s Feel, depict the dangers and despair that accompany heroism, but also the lasting bonds that can be forged between Shirou and those he encounters through his noble fight.

Visual novel connoisseurs can look forward to getting to play one of the genre’s pioneers for themselves, and fans of the anime can dive deeper into the source material to see what they’ve missed out on. No definitive release date has been presented yet, but we’ll keep you in the loop as soon as the news breaks.
