No More Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games says executive producer

With the Olympics taking place in Paris at the moment, many thought now would have been an ideal time for Nintendo and SEGA to team up together for a new entry in the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games series. However, it seems as though the series has ultimately been scrapped by the two companies. The news comes courtesy of Lee Cocker, who is the series producer behind the franchise, and was responding to people on X enquiring when we are getting a new entry in the Mario & Sonic series.

      1. Damn, can’t believe that Mario’s games have all been tarnished because Sonic has already crossed over with him on numerous occasions. It’s so over for Mario… :’(

    1. Oh thank god, I never ever cared for this franchise, you have such a cool crossover and you waste it on realistic sports

  1. Maybe we’ll get a REAL crossover, instead of milking the international Olympics every 2 years.

Save it for Izzy, or whoever the fictional face of the Olympics is nowadays.

Besides, the roster’s been stagnant since 2009, and some of these rival counterparts make little sense.

  2. If only they focused on dream events and non real world elements…. Didn’t lock characters behind one mini game. People would’ve cared more …

Stages minigames that took place across the Mario and sonic series . We didn’t need Mario and sonic in Rio Paris Tokyo Canada etc

    1. No…..which is why I’m confused why ppl on twitter acting like it was a huge loss….as if the games weren’t getting watered down and less impactful each with each release

  3. I mean, the series peaked with the DS version of M&S at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics- the game modes, the way events felt, THE STORY MODE, and so much more. I still have my copy 15 years later and fire it up for a few minutes when the weather gets cold and snowy.

I hope this means a real Mario & Sonic crossover will eventually happen.

  4. I guess ending the game at the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan was sort of a closure to the series. After travelling to many countries, the two mascots returned to their home.
