Billbil-kun says Nintendo announcement this month is for new Switch OLED bundle

Nintendo switch (oled model)

Respected video game leaker billbil-kun has posted on X to say that the industry whispers around a Switch 2 reveal this month is actually for a new Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) bundle which features the sublime Super Mario Bros. Wonder and a three month subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. It makes sense for Nintendo to create a new Nintendo Switch (OLED) bundle to continue to drive sales before the successor to the Switch is revealed.

Package contents:

  • Nintendo Switch console – OLED model (white color)
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder game download code
  • 3-month subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service

  1. Yeah, everyone doubted my logic, but this makes more sense. Why reveal the next device before the holidays? I would have been shocked to see the next device announced before the February Direct.

    1. Yeah, I agree with you, I have been saying the same, but I can’t help but wonder if the reveal date will be October 20th, one year after Mario wonder, and also the same reveal date for the original switch in 2016 hmm

      1. The reason the Switch was announced before the holiday season was because the Wii U was a failure and Nintendo wanted to move on as quickly as possible. I don’t think that’ll happen. They still have 7+first party games and a ton of indie and 3rd party games still coming to the platform. I would imagine they want to give the device one last healthy holiday season and give most of the games still coming a bit of breathing room. The February Direct just makes too much sense as its still within the Japanese fiscal year (as they claimed it would be announced before the start of the next fiscal year).

        1. I agree with you again, but I think that Nintendo would only care about the Zelda title coming out this month, but not so much about the Mario title in November. People would buy Mario anyway, as we all love him.

The indie titles would get enough attention anyway as the switch 2 launch probably won’t be until April may time next year, so plenty of time to have the spot light.

I think it will be October or February, but don’t think it will be any other months, we will see.

          1. Yeah, I agree its less about indie games. The only way I see it being announced this year is if they talk about backwards compatibility showing people that Switch games they buy today (showing the new Zelda game for footage) can be moved to the next device and save data will continue as well. So I feel if October happens, then they need to lean hard into this message to continue support for upcoming games.

      1. Because the Wii U was a failure and Nintendo wanted to move on quickly. Even with declining sales, the Switch and its games are still selling fairly well for an outdated nearly 8 year old platform.

        1. The Wii U may have been a failure, but don’t forget about the dear 3DS, the switch was replacing both, and backwards compatibility wasn’t a thing with the 3DS and switch, but they still went forward, even when games like pokemon sun and moon sequels were coming out. Nintendo didn’t seem to care to much.

So I don’t think they are going to care about any further damage they could do to the switch, it’s pretty old and they will be eager to show of their new hardware.

          1. Hmm, my response never posted. On the off chance you see two replies, just know something is off with the site.

That said, you have a point with the 3DS selling better. Although it still having one set of Pokemon games coming to the platform still doesn’t compare to the Switch still waiting on a port of Donkey Kong Country Returns, new Metriod Prime, new Mario RPG, new Zelda, and new Mario party all still coming to the platform.

            1. Just because I used the pokemon sun and moon titles as an example, doesn’t mean there wasn’t plenty more titles coming out that Nintendo didn’t mind hurting. All these 3DS titles, including Luigi’s mansion, and Metroid samus returns should be noted.

              1. Wow, that is a much bigger list than I thought it would be. I forgot how much support the 3DS was still getting at that point. The only rebuttal I have then is that the 3DS was still being used in case the Switch wasn’t a success, where I would be surprised if the next platform isn’t a full replacement. But you do have a very good case using the 3DS as evidence that Nintendo might announce the successor to the Switch this year, suppose only time will tell.

          2. 3DS has backward compatibility with DS games.

Like the N64 to Gamecube, backward compatibility cannot be achieved physically on Switch (with Wii U) because of game format, but also asynchronous/dualscreen play given by Wii U.

    2. Because every single one of the Switch’s predecessors was revealed several months to years before release and they didn’t care about disrupting holiday seasons with any of those consoles.

  2. This seems more likely to me indeed…

As I said before, many of these so-called “leakers” only rely on Nintendo’s history to claim this or that… And when they make a mistake, they invent bogus excuses that many believe in!
For my part, I believe less and less in a revelation this year but more in early 2025 with a release in autumn or even the end of 2025 because, yes, don’t forget that metroid prime 4 is not out yet…. everything will depend on him in my opinion

        1. Nintendo confirmed it will come out in 2025.
Switches first triple A was BotW which was also cross platform.
          I’ll take my chances.

    1. Release is not gonna be in the end of 2025.
      Mid 2025 at latest

Because it’s gonna be revealed this fiscal year, with ends in the beginning of 2025.
There will not be an interval of, let’s say, more than 8 months between announcement and release.
The CEO of Nintendo suggested this time it will be a shorter interval than usual, and 8+ months is even longer than usual. Switch had a 5 month interval. This time it could be even shorter

  3. For the unaware (even RGT85 is aware how crap the global scene is now) I think Nintendo is holding on for now until better times await the consumers which right now the main priority is food and living costs NOT expensive entertainment machines. This is the time to save for when the SHTF either nationally and/or a local event you never know these days what will come and it’s good to have even a small savings account to get you by but in the end a great reset your digital money will be worthless.

  4. In other words depending on who is elected this November (and elections in other countries): it will affect the global business scene either for good or bad, Nintendo will either release the Switch 2 next year or hold out much later if things slide even further. They don’t want to sell an expensive machine during bad times and not make any returns not even just to break even. No pun intended.

China has for the most part stopped production of electronic parts and people there are in miserable conditions similar to the 60s-80s when they did hard communism and had crap infrastructure which they could never get enough supplies for their 1 billion people all crammed in falling down buildings or about to fall down any day. China graduates (the good ones) are going into scam businesses and/or high crime just to survive until they get caught by authorities and it ain’t pleasant either scenario.

  5. There was a place Linus Tech Tips went to that was a 4 story fancy electronic store which he built a gaming PC ON THE SPOT and went back after the p(l)andemic: It’s no longer there. It’s all boarded up along with other shuttered businesses both big and small.

  6. It is possible BOTH could be true. It does make sense that Nintendo would release a one last bundle for the Switch this Holiday season with a pack-in title like Mario Wonder.

However, a teaser-trailer for the next device is not even an issue towards that. Especially for a console that is as successful as the Nintendo Switch. Heck, the PlayStation 2 (the best-selling hardware of all-time) didn’t stop production until January 2013 and that was just months before release of the PlayStation 4. It lasted two whole console generations with superior tech across the board from three console manufacturers (which INCLUDED Nintendo,) yet, the PS2 had more console sales than Microsoft with the XBOX and XBOX 360, and Nintendo had with the GameCube and the Wii, respectively.

It doesn’t make sense to shove all these Nintendo Directs together just to make room for an announcement of a bundle for the Switch. Nintendo has NEVER done this, and there is no real advantage to doing so UNLESS they are about to give us a teaser trailer for the new device. Then, once the smoke has cleared and everyone has had their chance to calm down, they can have another Nintendo Direct closer to Black Friday to announce bundles for the OLED Switch, and a price drop.

  7. I wonder if shuntaro furukawa is reading these comments,……..
He be like, ‘ if only you knew, just if only, could be next week, could be next year, who knows, I do!’ 😄😄

  8. Doesn’t make sense to push several Nintendo Directs from September to August only to announce a Switch OLED with a almost year old Mario game. That would be very anticlimactic.

    1. I mean, Nintendo has been doing a regular Switch bundle with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe every holiday season since release year, so anything is possible
