The soundtrack to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is truly magical so it is sad to hear today that the game’s composer, Yasuaki Iwata, has made a belated announcement about his departure from the Kyoto-based company. Yasuaki Iwata left the company in July 2023 and took the reins at another company.
I have a bit of a belated announcement to share. In July of last year, I took a step in a new direction by leaving my position at Nintendo. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported me over the years, to those who enjoyed my work, and to everyone who listened to the music through the projects I was a part of. I’ve been working on new projects since my departure, and I hope to have the opportunity to share some of these with you in the near future. If there are those who would like to continue following my journey, I’d be truly grateful, and I hope you look forward to what’s to come. Thank you very much for your continued support!

There is only the Hyrule Castle theme that i loved.
great composer. sad that he left, his music was very essential for the atmosphere of hyrule, many people were criticizing the lack of energetic and upbeat music from the game, but i always thought that those little piano melodies and relaxing town themes were pretty fitting for a world that was living the aftermath of a terrible war
Not gonna lie, but he is a great composer for the game who brings the magic to life for the 2017 game. I hate to see the man go.
Kinda sad they left but I will wish him the best and looking forward to his new compositions.
BotW’s sound design is one of the best in gaming. I remember playing the game with headphones on and listening to the clink of my weapon bouncing between my shield and my back. I can still hear what it sounds like to run through the tall grass of Hyrule and the buzz of a grasshopper zipping away because I was unprepared to catch it after cutting the grass. And I will never forget the vibrant town melodies that cut through the deserted ambience of the broken down landscape of Hyrule- the music of the lively towns that proved Ganon hadn’t truly defeated heart of Hyrule for its people were still steadfast and alive.
BotW may not have been a perfect game, but its atmosphere sure was. That atmosphere came to be as it was because of the decision to play music sparingly so as to instill feelings of warmth and hospitality from the towns you visit. BotW is truly an experience I will never forget because of that dedication to sounds and music.
Great news! BOTW music was terrible. It hasn’t even been a day and Donald J. Trump is already fixing the gaming industry!
Go kill yourself MAGA trash.
Why would I? Trump won and everything is going my way! :D
BOTW had music?
Breath of the Wild had music? News to me. The most disappointing thing about that game was it’s serious lack of audio. Definitely a drop in quantity if not also quality from every previous Zelda title prior. There were a few decent jingles spread sporadiclly across wide swathes of emptiness. But overall? BotW and TotK’s greatest sins are neglecting the powerful legacy of Zelda music.
I hear he’s now flying around to different places, singing songs with puzzling lyrics as he plays his accordion.
Sad to hear that the Breath of the Wild composer has left Nintendo! Their music truly made the game’s world come alive, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Imagine experiencing that same sense of peace and immersion while staying in a Luxury Villas. Just like in the game, it’s all about beautiful views, tranquility, and unique experiences that stay with you.
Did he write the music for the Tears of the Kingdom final trailer? Because that was FANTASTIC. Uh, weirdly better than anything else in the games… I did love the Hyrule Castle theme from BotW.
Another Iwata has left Nintendo. 💔🥺 Thankfully, this was under better circumstances than Satoru.
