SEGA has confirmed a new Virtua Fighter game is in development

One thing SEGA and fighting fans in general have been clamouring for is a new entry in the classic Virtua Fighter series. The last game in the series which launched for console was Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown in 2021. With Street Fighter and Tekken both having new entires on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S it is probably time for a new entry. Today, in a new interview with VGC, SEGA’s Lead for Global Transmedia Strategy, Justin Scarpone, has confirmed that a new Virtua Fighter game is development.

“So we have a suite of titles in development right now that fall into that legacy bucket, which we announced last year at The Game Awards; Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and we have another Virtua Fighter being developed. And so all that’s very exciting. And then in certain instances, we’re also doing animation series, or live-action films to augment that and be part of those roadmaps.”

  1. I dont think so. I thought the leaks showcased two different versions of the game. One being an actual game and the other being a live service open world game? If they were smart. They’d make the live service game pay for the costs of their regular game

  2. As much as I hate Sega, I’m actually happy. To me, Virtua Fighter is Sega’s second most important IP, and I don’t want anyone but Akira Yuki to be the next Sega rep in Smash (assuming the next Smash has any Sega characters at all). Who knows? Maybe they’ll finally give Akira a super mode or at least superpowers so he won’t have to rely on the weapons from his victory animations to not be the most boring fighter in Smash history.
