China: All Nintendo Switch online services to be suspended in 2026

Tencent recently announced that the Nintendo Switch eShop and all other online services for the Nintendo Switch will be suspended permanently in China starting from March 2026.

Tencent Holdings Ltd. distributes the Switch in mainland China after Nintendo partnered with them in 2019 to bring the hybrid handheld to the Chinese market

Per the announcement, the Chinese eShop will stop offering games on March 31, 2026, and all other online services for the system- including code redemption and downloads- will be shut down on May 15, 2026.

This will only affect those customers who have purchased the offical Chinese version of the Switch, and not those who obtained one from a different region.

As the Switch is region-free, many in China have chosen to import systems from elsewhere so that they can connect with Switches worldwide and gain access to a larger array of games than the selection available on the Chinese version.

    1. Thanks for your comment, I’ve fixed up the wording to clear that up.

As for why they’re ending the service, nothing was shared, but from my understanding, it is primarily Tencent’s decision and not Nintendo’s.

  1. I think this is chinas way of trying to stop people having too much game time. Seems a bit ott, I guess everyone in China will be purchasing a switch 2 from Europe/america, hope it’s region free still

  2. Ten cent can’t tell Nintendo to stop using the Switch Online. This is a click bait article. It’s not true at all. ONLY THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT CAN DO THIS TYPE OF THING. Chinese government hasn’t open any possibilities about shutting down the Switch online. Fake news people please don’t fall for it.

  3. It’s surprising to see all Nintendo Switch online services in China coming to an end in 2026, especially for players who’ve invested years into their digital libraries and memberships. I wonder how this will affect game preservation and access to previously purchased content. Situations like this really highlight how important reliable information sources are—just like having access to accurate public data through resources such as Renville inmate database when you need verified records. Hopefully, Nintendo provides a smooth transition plan for users impacted by this decision.

  4. The upcoming suspension of all Nintendo Switch online services in China will affect many gamers who rely on multiplayer and cloud features. For anyone interested in official updates or local records, the Flathead inmate search offers detailed information on detention data that can provide useful insights. 5. Many gamers in China will likely face challenges next year with the suspension of Nintendo Switch online services. While entertainment options are limited, having access to essential information remains important. The Tulare custody records serve as a helpful resource for anyone needing accurate local data. It highlights how dependable digital tools continue to support everyday needs.

  6. That’s a major shift for Nintendo fans in China, especially for those who depend on online play and digital purchases. It really shows how quickly policies and service agreements can change in different regions. Staying informed through trustworthy sources is essential in situations like this, whether it’s gaming updates or official resources such as Suffolk court updates. Hopefully, players will get detailed guidance and support before the 2026 suspension takes place.

  7. Interesting development! With so many services being discontinued, it really highlights the importance of having reliable access to official records and information. For anyone curious about tracking local properties or wanting to check official documentation, I found this resource for Gilmer property search really straightforward and helpful. It makes looking up details and valuations much easier. Definitely worth bookmarking for reference!
