Rumor: Retailer mentions “3D Mario” & “Zelda remake/remaster” on eShop

Mario in Super Mario Run for iOS and Android devices

The rumors for the Switch 2 have decreased by a lot since Nintendo finally revealed the console last week. However, that doesn’t mean that the rumors have stopped completely. The hardware may be revealed, but there’s still some aspects of the Switch 2, such as the specs, that Nintendo hasn’t discussed and have been holding off until April’s Switch 2 Direct. There’s also the fact that the only Switch 2 game that Nintendo has confirmed so far is a new Mario Kart.

So, it isn’t really surprising that rumors are still trying to fill in the few gaps that Nintendo has left in regards to the Switch 2. This time though, it comes from a retailer named Newegg. On their site, you can find a listing for an eShop gift card. The gift card mentions the new Mario Kart game that Nintendo announced, but for some reason, they also mentioned a “3D Mario” and a “Legend of Zelda remake/remaster”.

As of this article’s writing, they have removed both of those unannounced games, as well as the new Mario Kart, from the listing. Despite the brief time it was visible, fans and the gaming media still noticed it and it has only fueled more speculation on what Nintendo has planned for the Switch 2’s launch year. Like usual, this isn’t straight from Nintendo, so keep things with an open mind.

  1. Purely speculation on my part, but it would be a pretty big system seller if they revealed a full Ocarina of Time remake exclusive to Switch 2.

I love Ocarina of Time and its 3DS remaster, but if they made a big remake of it that could be a huge hit with general audiences who view the original design as outdated. It wouldn’t even need to be as huge as BotW; as long as it feels like an improvement over the original, it would sell well

    1. Sounds like a bad thing to me. Please don’t turn Ocarina of Time into something more similar to BotW. Not every game needs to be open world.

People that think Ocarina of Time has “dated design” doesn’t have good taste.

      1. It wouldn’t need to be open world. Just bigger and spectacular with modernized controls. They wouldn’t necessarily need to turn it into BotW or anything either, and tbh I wouldn’t want them to do that anyway. There are plenty of ways to make a modern remake of Ocarina of Time that still respects its original design and vision while adhering to what people expect of games today. This wouldn’t be like Final Fantasy VII Remake

    2. Ocarina of Time on 3DS was ALSO a remake, not a remaster. All the visuals and assets were completely redone. That’s like calling the 2019 version of Lion King a “remaster” of the 1994 version.

I think it’s possible they COULD remake Ocarina of Time again, now with next-generation graphics, though I could also see them finally bringing out Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD instead. There’s currently no official way to play this on current Nintendo hardware.

    1. It’s definitely that. The leaks have been consistent with that too.

I feel like it’s a bad move. I don’t know why they think people would just want a prettier BOTW. TOTK introduced some nice QoL features that would be missed in BOTW.

    1. They wouldn’t. As much as I would love this, the only people that would ever remake a major 3D Marios title from the ground up would be Nintendo themselves, likely the 3D Mario team in Tokyo.

If they give us a Sunshine remake, we’d be getting that INSTEAD of a new game entirely, and I prefer new things.
