8% of respondents in GDC survey are working on Switch 2 games

The Game Developers Conference, or GDC for short, isn’t taking place until March. However, this is the time of the year where they like to release the results of a survey they did, which is called the “State of the Game Industry”. This is the 13th year that they have done this, and for this year, there’s some interesting stuff for Nintendo fans.

The survey, which asked more 3,000 game developers from 86 countries, states that 20% are developing games for the Nintendo Switch. Another 8% are currently working on games for the Switch 2. For their next project, 20% of game developers asked in the survey said that they were planning on developing for the Nintendo Switch 2, and another 21% for the current Switch.

  1. If the rumored price is correct, they really have to bring it with this system. Great first party games, plenty of storage, full third party support. Be able to play red dead 2, gta 5 and 6, call of duty, all that.

    1. Why did you list garbage games no real gamer plays? And Nintendo does just fine not catering to the casual hobbyists, only real gamers play Nintendo.

  2. 8% of 3000 is still 240 developers, it’s not so bad; I guess it also takes into account the small independents, we suspect that they don’t have the material means to develop on 2 “different” switchs at the same time

I’m more interested in the big “absentees” on switch like EA (if it’s still for a legacy version that it keeps it) or some who couldn’t port their “big games” to switch like elden rinr

    1. 8% for switch 2 with another 20% of developers planning on making games for it. Over time, that number will go from 240 to 840 developers, that’s still a large number for support for the system. Also, who’s to say that other 20% will do switch 2 games after they’re finished with OG switch titles? We also have to remember that Activision will be supporting the system, Ubisoft is a given (regardless of peoples feelings about them), square enix potentially branching out their properties to other platforms and if these rumored titles turn out to be true, then I have good faith that Nintendo is in a good spot.

  3. For people saying that number is low. Nintendo isn’t giving out dev kits to everybody yet. If you go to their site you can read that developers have to wait. Nintendo only sent dev kits to a group of AAA studios like Ubisoft, EA, microsoft, and maybe a small group of well known indie developers, just like they did in the past when the first switch launched, yacht ckub games for example.

  4. I had already read the rumors about the future games to come on the new switch and I must say that I am skeptical as some seem ambitious

By comparing some via the steam deck, including
vision of mana, starfield or elden ring which run on “low” settings and hardly reach 30 fps (despite AMD’s FSR…), we have an idea of the enormous difficulties that it could cause on the new switch in handheld mode if the rumors about its spec sheet are true of course…
It’s not impossible that we’ll be surprised with NVIDIA and Nintendo on this side too.

  5. Lol the comments say 8% is small ut I bet they can’t name more than 15 developers let alone 240-480 developers.
