Metroid Dread developer MercurySteam is latest to announce layoffs

People from the video game industry and being laid off from their jobs left right and centre these days. The latest studio to announced redundancy’s is the talented studio behind the well-received Metroid Dread, MercurySteam. The company said that “while this is something common within the production cycles of our industry, it is nonetheless a difficult and painful situation.” MercurySteam says it will do “everything we can” to try to help the laid off workers jobs at other companies.

“We want to express our deepest respect, gratitude, and support for the people affected, whose talent, effort, and commitment have been an important part of the studio’s history,” reads the post.

“If your studio or company is looking for experienced developers, please feel free to contact us at personasycultura@mercurysteam.com. We will do everything we can to help these professionals find new opportunities.”

    1. Honeatly it would be a good fit. I think some company called Nordisk Film owns them and Avalanche the Just Cause guys.

      1. I thought it was Nordisk Games who owned majority share on MercurySteam.

        But yeah, seems unlikely that Nintendo buys the developer outright. Not so much because of that, but they seem to always leave talent behind.

  1. It’s a shame but I suppose they are relatively small. I’d be suprised if they weren’t brought back for a new 2D Metroid from Nintendo, but either way it has been ages since that game released so it’d make sense they aren’t turning the biggest profit.

  2. Please don’t end up like alpha dream. Nintendo needs to buy this company so that more masterpieces can be made. It could happen since Nintendo did buy monolisoft.
