Insider Gaming: “Switch 2 dev kits, or some of them” don’t have 4K output

Ever since the Switch 1 Direct last week, Switch 2 info has been swirling a bunch once again. A little of it was due to things Nintendo, unintentionally or not, quietly confirmed after the Switch 1 Direct happened. Most of it, however, has been due to yet more rumors that have appeared. A lot of them are in regards to the console’s dev kits.

For example, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson recently did an episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast. There, Henderson reveals that “I heard this from one developer at GDC and also heard it separately in an email but the dev kits, or some of the dev kits, don’t have a 4K output”. It is worth noting that, if this is actually a thing, it wouldn’t automatically mean that the Switch 2 is not capable of 4K. Still, the Switch 2 Direct is in just a couple of days, so it won’t be long before we find out.

  1. You can tell everyone is foaming at the mouth to find out new details lol

I mean, guilty as charged, I’ve refreshed this page a couple of times today already lol

  2. I smell TMZ bullshizz!!!!!!
However, @zant84 DOES have a point. Even if the Switch doesn’t have native 4K, most of the games will be upscaled to 4K via DLSS.

  3. Of course it wont run 4k. The system is weak and outdated. Probbwly 480p and 30fps at most. Its gonna be a WII U flop again and will be fun to see it happen.

    1. How the hell is the system weak and outdated? You’re blind to the fact that the Switch 2 runs at 1080p in portable, 1080-1440p in docked mode… 4K upscaled via DLSS.

      1. Sorry but I got to stay away from this website or anything that might spoil the direct, not that this particular article is spoiler. Even doing a new tab in my browser might bring up some possible spoilers.

      2. Always their “I heard someone say in a bar…” nonsense.

I can’t wait for tomorrow for all this to end

    2. Even at 1080 it will be a huge success. Games are what matter not the output resolution. If you don’t like it don’t buy it.

  4. Unless there is something that upscales in the dock then there is no way the switch 2 will output at 4k. The steam deck can only just run most modern games at just above 720p at 30fps.

    1. It will be in the dock. The switch itself will be 1080p. This literally will probably cut down on cost due to the size being able to be bigger for that part of the board in the dock. It also makes the most sense. Why would anyone need a 4k 8 or 10 in screen? You cannot even see the pixels on a 1080 res at that size. Docked makes more sense.

  5. If true, the lack of 4K output on some dev kits is curious—but not a dealbreaker. Could just be placeholder hardware or Nintendo keeping full specs under wraps. All eyes on the upcoming Direct now!

  6. Interesting! Some dev kits reportedly not having 4K output doesn’t necessarily mean the Switch 2 can’t do 4K – could be different kit tiers or software limitations. With the Switch 2 Direct just days away, we’ll finally get the real story. Nintendo’s always been tight-lipped until the official reveal.

  7. Man, the anticipation is killing me! Even if the dev kits aren’t showing 4K right now, I’m still holding out hope for a massive jump in performance. Only a couple more days until the Direct, so we’ll finally know what’s real and what’s just noise.

  8. It’s always interesting to hear these dev kit rumors, especially after the recent Switch 1 Direct. Honestly, I’m just hoping for solid performance and some cool new features, 4K output or not. What I really need is something to fix my old gaming photos, you know? Like this old photo restoration tool I found, it’s a lifesaver for bringing those blurry memories back into focus.

  9. Man, the Switch 2 rumors just keep on coming, don’t they? It’s wild how much speculation there is especially after that Switch 1 Direct. Honestly, the 4K output dev kit news isn’t super surprising, seems like Nintendo focuses more on unique experiences than raw power. Speaking of creativity, I’ve been diving into creating my own narrative shorts lately, and I found this platform that really speeds up my workflow for turning my stories into anime. It’s been a game-changer for bringing my ideas to life.

  10. This 4K output news for the Switch 2 dev kits is definitely interesting! It’s wild how much speculation there is around new consoles. Honestly, in my work, I’m constantly dealing with different resolutions and trying to get things looking sharp. I’ve been using this AI image upscaler a lot lately to make sure all my assets are production-ready. It’s a lifesaver for not having to worry about image quality.

  11. Interesting how these Switch 2 dev kits are still a bit of a mystery, especially with the 4K output. It’s always a gamble when new tech rolls out! Speaking of new tech, I recently updated my LinkedIn profile and used this AI headshot service to get some really professional-looking pics without needing to book a fancy studio. It’s wild what AI can do these days.

  12. It’s always wild how much info comes out after a big Nintendo announcement, isn’t it? The Switch 2 rumors are really picking up steam, especially about the dev kits and the 4K output question. Makes me think about how much tech evolves – kinda like how I’m always on the lookout for new ways to push AI art, like with where I grab Nano Banana prompts to get fresh ideas for stunning visuals.

  13. It’s always a rollercoaster with these Switch 2 rumors, isn’t it? The 4K output debate is interesting, especially when you consider how much file sizes and image formats play into modern gaming and web experiences. I’ve been using this tool to convert AVIFs for my own dev stuff, and it’s been a lifesaver for keeping things optimized without losing quality. Makes you wonder if Nintendo’s going to stick with more optimized formats.

  14. Ugh, the Switch 2 rumors are getting wild, and this 4K output thing is just adding to the confusion. It’s funny how a good rumor can spread faster than the actual news sometimes! Honestly, all this talk makes me want to just chill out and create some retro avatars. I’ve been using this old-school pixel art maker to design some cool new profile pics for my online communities.
