NVIDIA has finally spoken about its work on the Nintendo Switch 2 which includes AI, DLSS upscaling solutions and 4K HDR resolution. NVIDIA says that the upcoming system takes advantage of a custom NVIDIA processor featuring an NVIDIA GPU with dedicated RT Cores and Tensor Cores for stunning visuals and AI-driven enhancements. Read on for the full announcement from NVIDIA:
AI and Ray Tracing for Next-Level Visuals
The new RT Cores bring real-time ray tracing, delivering lifelike lighting, reflections and shadows for more immersive worlds.
Tensor Cores power AI-driven features like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), boosting resolution for sharper details without sacrificing image quality.
Tensor Cores also enable AI-powered face tracking and background removal in video chat use cases, enhancing social gaming and streaming.
With millions of players worldwide, the Nintendo Switch has become a gaming powerhouse and home to Nintendo’s storied franchises. Its hybrid design redefined console gaming, bridging TV and handheld play.
More Power, Smoother Gameplay
With 10x the graphics performance of the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers smoother gameplay and sharper visuals.
- Tensor Cores boost AI-powered graphics while keeping power consumption efficient.
- RT Cores enhance in-game realism with dynamic lighting and natural reflections.
- Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) via NVIDIA G-SYNC in handheld mode ensures ultra-smooth, tear-free gameplay.
Tools for Developers, Upgrades for Players
Developers get improved game engines, better physics and optimized APIs for faster, more efficient game creation.”

Ok then the price of this console makes sense with all this tech.
I guess this is the real reason why NIVIDIA was involved with the hardware development.
10 times more?? So it’s more then the 3,1 and 1,7 tflops that was stated in a rumour couple months ago
Randy. Dumb this down for me – Are we talking more powerful than PS4 Pro ?
I’m not Randy, but based on discussions on reddit and such it’s basically an Xbox Series S with more RAM (10GB vs 12GB) when docked with superior Nvidia’s DLSS compared to AMD’s FSR. When in portable mode it’s between PS4 and PS4 pro, leaning more towards PS4.
Xbox Series S? We will see once we all get our hands on one.
Well it’s already outperforming the Steam Deck, which is basically a Series S that’s been downclocked
As my husband would say, we can’t judge the power difference between two consoles anymore because of the different chip designs (and in this respect, Nvidia has a head start over AMD).
Another fact: the Xbox One X has more theoretical power than the Series S, yet the games on it look better than on the Xbox One X..
Isn’t the 10 times more likely to account for stuff like DLSS? So will not just be a like for like teraflop comparison.
Yes. That’s why even with less teraflops than PS4 pro or series s the switch 2 can pull up stunt like 4k60 on Metroid prime 4. It’s simply hard to quantify console performance from just tf numbers nowadays.
Ok. Now this fully explains why the price has increased to 449$ US because of the accurate specs and its light source for improve gaming resolution.
G-Sync makes more sense why the Switch 2 is pricy
Another fact (which surprises some…)… NVIDIA talks about “new RT cores” but we are at version 4 with the RTX 5XXX, it seems unlikely that NVIDIA has added specificities of its new graphics cards to a Nintendo console but… Not impossible, they did it at the time for the Xbox and PS3…
So yes, I think we know one of the reasons for the price if all this is true…
Apparently PS5 has only 6-7 times the graphics performance of the PS4. So who is making weak consoles here? 😆
It’s more complicated than that… The PS5 has features that the PS4 doesn’t… With the same computing power, PS5 games would have already been more beautiful than on PS4
