Koei Tecmo says Nintendo Switch 2 is closer to Xbox Series S than PS4

There’s been a lot of debate about the power of the Nintendo Switch 2 with Digital Foundry stating that the system is closer in power to the PlayStation 4 than the Xbox Series S. However, in a recent interview Koei Tecmo Producer Takuto Edagawa stated when asked that is “difficult to generalise” but he believes it to be closer to the Xbox Series S.

In terms of raw computing power, is it closer to the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox Series S?

There are a lot of characteristics when it comes to raw computing power so it’s difficult to generalize, but I think it can be thought as closer to the Series S.

  1. Between game developers who actually do it as a living and enthusiasts that, for whatever reason, gained a lot of clout in the gaming media, it’s not a hard choice to make about who to believe in.

Hoping for the day DF get back to the hole they crawled from.

  2. It’s definitely packing more punch than I expected. It’s also definitely less powerful than the Series S, but not by as much as I thought.

    1. How can you tell? We still haven’t seen a lot of actually well optimized games with great graphics, you can’t use Mario Kart World or any of the launch ports to compare to a console that has been out for 5 years. Developers had a lot more time to figure out how to optimize for the Xbox series S.

Even in the Switch there were later games that looked better than what we had at launch. Ports are never fully optimized for best graphics at launch.

  3. I kind of saw that coming, but what they’re not saying is that’s the power when docked, because undocked it’s closer to the PS4 Pro, which is still a pretty good power level to be at

  4. In the same vein, I read a rather ludicrous article on Eurogamer… claiming that the Switch 2 does not have a “DLSS function” just a gimmick and that some announced games will never come out (because the Steam Deck itself can’t run them) and so on… Digital Foundry and Eurogamer are in the same boat…

    1. Between Eurogamer and NVIDIA outright stating it does have DLSS (just look at their official blog/site)… Yeah, not a hard choice about who to believe again.

This is what gaming media has devolved into. Even Bloomberg is more trustworthy than Eurogamer.
