The Nintendo Switch 2 has proved to be a highly sought after device especially so in Japan. So much so that Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has apologised for the stock situation in the Land of the Rising Sun. Furukawa says that more and more stores will be selling the product once supply meets demand and says that they are “making every effort” to supply retailers with Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Here’s what he said via DeepL translation.
“Currently, there is more demand than supply for Switch 2 in many countries and we are not able to meet it. We understand that some of our shareholders have not been able to obtain the product. We have accepted lottery sales on the My Nintendo Store since April. The number of applicants far exceeded our expectations.
Since then, we have held four lottery sales, but some people did not win. I announced that the fifth lottery would be held in July. As for general mass retailers, many of them also sold by lottery. Gradually, more and more stores are selling the products in their stores.
We will make every effort to supply the production system so that as many units as possible can be delivered. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this initial demand, which was much higher than expected.”

Hilarious considering he previously said this wouldn’t be a problem.
Maybe next time don’t jump the gun, Mr President?
Or they thought demand wouldn’t be this high, considering the economic landscape right now. However the sheer numbers the switch 2 is doing is far exceeding expectations that anyone had set.
I had expected it would sell well, but not like this, having over 3.5 million in stock for it all to be sold in its Launch week is insane already.
Simply put, what the hell is going on with the Demand for this system.
Some small places might have some stock according to the internet, but the internet also like to over blow these things as well. I know when I got mine, the store only had 3 units in, and all had been picked up a day later.
Post a link where he said that.

Oh but I heard from a guy on Reddit nobody is buying them, and they’re collecting dust on shelves.
Lmao… its on reddit then it’s absolute fact.
Maybe next time he should think outside the box so this whole mess wouldn’t be a problem for many Nintendo fans.
This was the first console I couldn’t get at launch. The buzz has worn off and now I can’t play Donkey Kong Bonanza because they didn’t make it for Switch 1.
Hope they’re happy they’re barely going to get any game sales.
It’s sold over 3.5 million units already. Just cause you can’t get one doesn’t mean game sales will be poor. Lmao.
I think they’ll be fine.
Just a guess……… but hasn’t he given most of the (cheaper) console, to Japan
The “cheaper” version is a model specific to Japan and is not available in the rest of the world, so it has nothing to do with it
Reversed engineered my comment and repeated it back.
The “cheaper” version isn’t favoritism. The Yen is just really, really weak. That version is around 67% more expensive than the Switch launched at, compared to 50% in most other countries. The international version is more than double.
People don’t buy things based on exchange rates. Have you ever done that? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a console launch with more misconceptions…
TechHog, noted on your economic insights.
A cheaper, region-locked Switch 2 for Japan, cosmically aligned with their weak Yen, is just happenstance (not edging towards favoritism)? And individuals ignore actual cost when buying? I envy your perspective
Well there was not really shortage except for pre oders. There are Switch 2 in every store since the lauch.
Not really, unless ya in some strange part of the US. Europe been having stock issues all the time. the UK is sold out all the time at retailers. Just because some local areas or parts of the US has stock on shelves, does not mean its in every store since launch
Lots of Switch 2’s available in my area
The fungus is happy. We must be cautious. One inhalement of spores is enough to kill.
The supply situation for Switch 2 (outside of Japan at least) has been far superior to PS5 and Xbox Series X. Which is a good thing by the way, not a bad thing.
Shortages are in Japan not outside though that doesn’t mean the rest of the world isn’t facing shortages just not to the same extent as Japan. Even if Nintendo quadrupled supply in Japan prior to launch there will still be shortages cuz demand in Japan is insane (in the membrane).
I walked into a San Diego Walmart and Target on Launch day and both had the Console in stock. I got one in store, no preorder.
Same, except i went to Staples without a pre-order and walked out with the Switch 2.
He doesnt have to apologize i will get one eventually in the meantime Ill wait for the rumoured Nintendo Direct next week and whatever games they show and im interested in Ill just pre order
Another problem is that refunded consoles that have been locked out of game access and online connectivity for supposed hacking and piracy are being re sold at retailers as new not used.
President of Nintendo: We’re sorry that you can’t buy into out exuberant prices right away.
Oh, he’s got a lot more to apologize for than just this.
