Final Fantasy VII Remake apparently runs at 40fps on Nintendo Switch 2

Square Enix employees have apparently revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake runs at 40fps. Traditionally games generally run at 30fps or 60fps so this supposedly means that the demo of Final Fantasy VII Remake was running in Performance Mode on the Gamescom show floor. The PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake has several modes for you to choose from and it seems as though the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be similar.

“Many apologies for the mistake I made in this video, I genuinely believed the game was running at 60fps. Having looked over the gameplay though, it appears to be a locked 30fps… HOWEVER, staff on the Final Fantasy booth have subsequently cleared things up, confirming that the game was actually running at
40fps!! All in all, the game runs super smooth and feels GREAT to play on switch 2!”

    1. The switch had a lot of great ports, but some developers were lazy when they ported some of the games the ones who did it properly made some great ports … the switch2 already has a couple of really good ports … , and you haven’t even seen the game run, a comment made on the article said it runs great on the switch2 …. And try playing PlayStation games on a portable system, that actually plays them without having to be tethered to their home system same with the Xbox games ..,. Maybe you just like to trash and Nintendo !? 🤨

  1. 40 fps for a game like this is fine. You want to push 60+ with competitive games or games that offer a real challenge. This is a fairly easy game to play at a lower frame rate. As long as this framerate is consistent even in handheld mode it will be perfect.

    1. Seeing how Nintendo doesn’t sell their platforms at a loss like their competition and how handhelds that are comparable to a PS4 Pro are still pricey today, what exactly were you expecting? For a handheld in 2025 it’s pretty average for a powerhouse portable. People that were expecting something comparable to a PS5 are delusional. We won’t see that level of power on portables for another 5+ years.

  2. Be real this is a trash game anyway and Square Enix is trash too. Instead of flop FF if they made good KH games they’d be in a better place like remake Union X and Dark Road and if Missing Link had been repurposed into a Switch/Switch 2 game no GPS stuff needed they’d do great just a proper game since KH4 seems to probably be canceled or scrapped and pushed to next gen probably as bad or worse than 3.

  3. The game looks like or almost like PS5 version, and runs at 40fps. It’s impressive for a portable device, has anyone expecting exactly the same performance than PS5, taken into consideration the size of the two systems???

  4. Minorities. Either they lack experience or they’re *issed off that Final Fantasy VII re-trilogy are no longer PlayStation exclusives? As long as it’s playable on Nintendo Switch 2, they’re absolutely no crime on how it freaking runs.

I’m so very glad that the Final Fantasy franchise is FINALLY back on a nintendo system.
