RPG Site recently chatted with Final Fantasy VII Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi about bringing the acclaimed JRPG to a wider audience now that the lengthy adventure is no longer exclusive to PlayStation consoles. Mr. Hamaguchi noted that it’s a wonderful thing to be able to share Final Fantasy VII Remake with more people with both the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions, which are set to be released in the coming months. Here’s what he had to say:
“As a creator, I do think being able to bring the game to a much wider and broader audience without the obstacles or confinement of hardware is a very positive and wonderful thing. With our current President’s company philosophy of expanding to multi-platforms in order to broaden the audience as well, I’m aligned with that and I feel very positively towards this as well.”

Changing such a philosophy was the best thing that could’ve happened to Square. Sure, it doesn’t excuse their previous behavior of sucking up to Playstation for the better part of a decade but at least they’re trying upon noticing that sticking to the PS5 would spell doom (har har) for them.
They got paid by Sony for numerous games that’s why and Sony had and still has shares in Square. Outside that its just bad business on them and honestly nothing will save them.
This so-called payment amounted to nothing in the end. FF isn’t selling well. Forspoken was a fiasco. Sony themselves aren’t in a good situation now with the Concord fiasco, few exclusives coming out to PS5, the PS5 Pro being a flop and most games not even having a release data. No God of War, Intergalactic looks awful, Wolverine’s leaked story is awful and many more.
Square can still save themselves by continuing what they’re doing, releasing titles for everyone. But they also need to stop experimenting with FF.
Didn’t you say Rebirth wouldn’t be announced for Switch 2?
On the Direct. And sure enough, it wasn’t. Square published a note later on.
People were thinking they would announce Rebirth with a trailer when Remake wasn’t even out. That was completely nonsensical.
Intergalactic looks awful?
We barely know anything about it.
It’s a Neil Druckmann game. You really think it won’t be awful?
Idk tbh. TLOU 2 was alright imo.
But you said it “looks awful”. Now you’re saying that it MIGHT be awful because of Neil. That’s two completely different statements. I just wanted to know why you thought the only trailer we saw “looks” awful.
I saw the trailer and even tho I don’t really like Neil all that much, fighting robots with a laser sword looks like fun (hopefully).
This game is garbage and Kingdom Hearts is just MIA even if 4 comes out making people wait almost 10 years between games is not it. Square is a complete dump this company is on hopium more so copium to trick shareholders.
Where is Kingdom Hearts 4 the game was show with gameplay in 2022 before Rebirth and all these other games from Square Enix shown after the Kingdom Hearts reveal yet all of these other games released already. What is going on? The influencers covering for this is fishy. Unlike Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts has no exclusivity contract and there was more anticipation but the wait killed it and reminder of how bad 3 was.
I personally can’t wait for Final Fantasy VII remake part III. Playing the first two parts was absolutely AMAZING and literally can’t wait to play part 3. The original Final Fantasy VII is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE games and playing the remakes brought me more joy than I’ve experienced in a long time. They exceeded my expectations by allot. The graphics and story were both on point and all of the side quests kept me busy for months
I agree with you in some cases, but this game is almost 90GB & carts hold about 60GB max. What other option do they have to release it physically?
People still crying about game-key cards? Ugh. It’s better than a one time code/download. You can actually share it with friends and even resell it. It’s like a digital game but with a physical key, so even if you lose your account, you will still have the game. There’s so many things people can complain about in regards to Nintendo that make far more sense than this. I’m sorry but game-key cards is one of Nintendo’s smartest ideas in a very long time, and it feels like something people are complaining about JUST to complain about. Or they’re foolishly stuck in their ways.
Or worse. They’re a tribalistic Sony fanboy pissed their favorite company didn’t do it first, so they’ll scream how it’s a bad idea until Sony finally does their own.
Pfft, but whatever, though. To each their own.
