Mortal Kombat III movie is in the works

New Line and Warner Bros have announced a third Mortal Kombat film following the success of the first movie reboot. The news was shared during a New York Comic Con panel for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 and was welcomed with cheers. It should be noted that the Mortal Kombat 2 has yet to be released and it is aiming for a 16th May, 2026 release date. Director Simon McQuoid spoke about the newly announced release date at the NYCC saying that the new movie is a “victim of [its] own success,”

On Mortal Kombat 3 movie:

“Our friends at New Line and Warner Bros. are so happy with this movie,” said Slater, who penned Mortal Kombat II. “They are so excited, they are so convinced that there is a giant fanbase waiting for it, they’ve already hired me to start writing the next installment.”

On the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 movie:

“Every time people have seen this movie, it gained momentum,” McQuoid said. “We’ve created a massive summer blockbuster. We should be proud of the fact that Mortal Kombat as the movie and the franchise is just gonna kick off summer next year. Yes, we have to wait but it’s gonna feel massive. That’s the reason.”

  1. First movie flopped green lighting a sequel made no sense now a sequel to that before the movie comes out? Add on MK1 the game flopping. WB are smoking some strong stuff look Superman flopped but they’re going full force on that garbage.

    1. Superman wasn’t a flop, it grossed 615 million on theaters and was watched by 13 million people on HBO Max in the first 10 days of release on the platform.

  2. I can’t tell if this is overconfidence or… just plain stupidity. What if this one vastly underperforms and wouldn’t warrant a sequel? I don’t see a lot of excitement for MKII around where I’m at.

  3. I’m going to echo the sentiments of other commenters here, this makes no sense to me. The first film was meh at best. The second one hasn’t even been tested in terms of the public and you have already greenlit a third? Okay then. The only thing I can think of is that they are betting on Karl Urban’s popularity from that show the boys to drive ticket sales since he is Johnny Cage. You know because, that makes complete sense /s 🤦‍♂️
