UK: Physical sales of Metroid Prime 4 were down 15% over Metroid Dread

UK journalist Christopher Dring has revealed that physical sales of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond were down 15% compared to the physical release of Metroid Dread on the Nintendo Switch. That’s not a huge amount and physical sales these days are obviously struggling against the might of digital. Dring says that the difference between the two is relatively marginal as it just by a few thousand units.

  1. Well it was always going to be troublesome year for MP4, sales will have been split between Mario kart world, DK Bonanza, Kirby and the forgotten land sw2e, Kirbys air riders, Pokemon Legends ZA, and any other big launch game for the Switch 2 this year. Metroid will hopefully pick up more sales next year, when the hype around the Switch 2 launch titles cools a little 😊

    1. Your username is apt, it doesn’t usually work like that. The overwhelming majority of sales will be during the first week and drops off massively thereafter. It will undoubtedly continue to sell at a trickle but it’s not suddenly going to increase. Maybe when more people see it instead of just listening to poorly done reviews it might get better

    2. Kirby Air Riders needs to support actual great game Sakurai didn’t dissapoint. More people need to play that if they have a Switch 2. Also kind of wish he would make a new Kid Icarus or find a way to port the 3DS one curious if that’s the Nintendo collab Bandai Namco canceled?

      1. Taking years of development does that. Nintendo wasted more time and money on this they may have high expectations because of that if it fails to meet that there may be consequences. Honestly it’s not just who you call “incels” even gaming media called this game out for being not great. Dredd lived up to Metroid this did not. This clearly is meant to jumpstart a film adding these characters. Also people are allowed to have opinions and not like something you going crazy shows you need mental help.

  2. This is down to the deliberately bad reviews and nitpicking on social media. All the negativity has achieved the desired result that people wanted, harmed sales. This is why social media is just bad.

    1. Agreed. The spiteful MFs who don’t even play games just trying to find dramas to leech off in their pathetic incel fights do my head in.

      1. Ok tourist. Calling people incel are you paid off or just that braindead worshipping Nintendo? Game took forever to come out that sets high expecatations and is probably better played for more money on Switch 2 it’s not meeting expectations and the garbage MCU humor/writing for characters is a turn off.

        1. You had high expectations for a game that switched studios mid development and many delays? lol
sure Retro had a good track record but where tf have they been since dk lol its obvious things werent as smooth as they could be. For the rating it got it turned out good anyway though

  3. I’ll say it again, the pathetic Metroid “fans” who whined about completely meaningless shit online have killed this game, and by extension the Metroid franchise as a whole.

I’ll enjoy laughing at you all as you spend the next decade crying out for a new Metroid game that’s never going to come. And you’ve only got yourselves to blame.

    1. Are you mental? People are allowed to criticize something also Dredd did good they could easily just have Mercury Steam make another 2D Metroid. Prime series could be cooked though. People do not need to shill for garbage if it doesn’t live up to their expectations it sets a bad precedant and companies will just make garbage then. The side characters were a turn off and the long development hurt this too shifting from Bandai Namco to Retro and supposedly the game being scrapped there too all set this up it’s on them. Retro could be cooked after this and rightfully so the 343 team brought their stink here.

      1. You realise we can tell when you’re the same person commenting multiple times under different aliases, right? lmao.
        Pathetic.

  4. That dumb actress, forget her name, but she didn’t help with the sales trying to force Nintendo to call samus trans when she’s not

    1. Did that really happen? Lol im glad i ignore most well ignorance in the irl. I’ma look forward to the game when i get a proper OLED switch 2, until then im happy catching up to my huge catalog.

  5. Im a couple of hours in.
First impression. Game is beautiful. Looks and plays like prime.
I can’t put my finger on it, but something feels off.
And Myles the npc. He is definitely annoying.

  6. A 15% drop in physical sales really isn’t bad at all, especially considering how heavily the market has shifted toward digital over the last few years. The fact that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is only a few thousand units behind Dread physically shows the franchise still has a strong and loyal fanbase picking up boxed copies.

And honestly, once digital numbers are factored in, I wouldn’t be surprised if Beyond ends up surpassing Dread overall. Metroid fans show up, and Prime is a legendary subseries—momentum feels strong.

  7. UK is Sony territory. But yeah this game is a pass Nintendo may take a huge loss with this but we’ll see and Retro could be closed down.

  8. Will that’s what happens when you take 20 years+ to bring out a new Metroid game a whole generation of gamers with very few experience what they like to play
Had they immediately worked on Metroid 4 after Metroid 3 was released, it wouldn’t had declined in sales.
