Nintendo has updated HDR on Switch 2 and here’s what you need to change

Nintendo is always tweaking both its software and hardware and one thing that has recently been noticed is the changes to the HDR settings on the Nintendo Switch 2. Thankfully, reliable YouTube channel HDTVTest is here to tell you how to tweak it for the best results as it wasn’t working correctly before on some models of TVs. What is suggested is that you turn on HGiG if you have it. On the first screen, turn up the brightness until the sun on the right isn’t visible anymore and on the second screen, press Y for the slider and set it to 5 clicks from the left. There’s more information if your curious in the video down below.

    1. HDR isn’t meant to be perfectly accurate on your display unless you’re grading it, you’ll just end up with something flat and dull that was originally created as a middle ground across all displays but not created to stay there. HDR, especially for most games, is meant to be vibrant and punchy, so push it! 5 clicks to the left isn’t universal. You want to find a game with bright highlights, like Metroid, Outlaws, the sky in MKW, etc and go back and forth between the game and settings until said highlights are as bright as they can get without clipping – the thing is, with adequate tone mapping which I believe the S2 utilizes, even at the highest setting most games shouldn’t give you issues pushed to max or close to it; you’ll likely benefit from cranking the slider all the way to the right even if your display is a little older. Mine in one click from max and it looks stunning with no clipping, the settings recommended in this video will bore you to tears.

    2. It wasn’t working on ANY model of screen for me before, I tried on many different ones. Good to know they’re working on it.

  1. Still doesn’t work for me, is washed out and can’t be bothered to spend anymore time fiddling around with settings on my TV and the console itself. It looks really good on my TV with it turned off so that’s fine for me

  2. I just started watching the video and it really helps a lot. I just got a new 4K Vizio TV this year since my old 4K TV screen was completely ruined and the screen LED lights stop working.

  3. Just get a different console, problem solved. Nintendo is a corrupt company that preys on its consumers and competitors. They do not deserve a penny from anyone. I cannot wait to watch them slowly decline. Anyone that supports nintendo is actively harming the gaming industry. Do your research and stop supporting companies like this.

    1. The late 2000s and early 2010s called. They want their “Nintendoomed” talk back. Nintendo is no more likely to go under than Disney or Netflix.

Honestly, I can’t get my Nintendo Switch 2 fast enough.

    2. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 hopefully you’re not serious with all that insane delusion you just spewed. I mean if you just swap Nintendo for Microsoft you’re 100% factually correct and nobody can argue against that, but Nintendo? They’re still a business but they’re one of the most wholesome. Just because you’re entitled and think however they “wronged” you should be different, I guarantee the problem was you from the beginning.
