Just one day after The Pokémon Company had to issue a statement about the White House using their intellectual property without permission, Nintendo is now taking things a step further by suing the U.S. government. The reason for the newly filed lawsuit is not IP theft however, but rather citing an unlawful imposition of tariffs. Due to the company’s use of overseas manufacturing and the release timing of Switch 2, Nintendo was severely impacted by the tariffs put in place with executive orders issued by the Trump Administration, and are suing to get the tariffs that have been collected “refunded with interest.”

The Executive Branch will not be stopped from charging tariffs. How about we sue Congress from excessive income taxes instead?
Because income taxes are normally used by governments in order to build the actual infrastructure for the citizens of the countries. We don’t think “corporation bad” we just don’t agree with a lot of their practices. Not being able to discern nuance is very telling on your end though.
I get that Nintendo had to pay more to import hardware and physical games into the US (as well as Amiibos which got their prices jacked up), but they passed the bill back to the American (and Canadian) public by flipping to a more loose pricing structure which resulted in prices going up on the regular Switch as well as peripherals like controllers. Additionally they waited to even set the price on the Switch 2 so there wasn’t an immediate need to change the price. Yet they still ended up even upping the pro 2 controller price as well as joycon 2’s.
So, when they get this money back… are they going to give something back to those of us who bought systems, controllers, and other Nintendo products during this period? I get that ram prices are stupid right now and hardware has gotten more expensive to produce thanks to all of the companies pushing to build big AI server farms. BUT, that’s a separate issue and if prices need to stay where they are to cover that, then so be it. BUT, those of us who did pay extra should get our money back as well as this was before the ram-ageddon (or rampocalypse?) happened.
Why? Because you felt shafted? No one forced you to buy the console. We all knew they were going to raise the prices. We all know that prices are going to keep going up, so them finding ways to circumvent the increasing prices for future adopters, shouldn’t mean “I pay more, I want money back.” It’s not how things work.
Now if Nintendo wants to repay their loyal day one adopters, then they’ll do that because they feel like it, but you aren’t owed anything because you made a personal decision at the “wrong” time.
