In its recently revealed financial results presentation Capcom has announced that a gigantic 93% of its sales are now made up of digital. The Japanese game developer confirmed that digital sales have increased from 90% in 2024 to 93% in 2026. Capcom now says that they expect this figure to rise from 93 percent to 95.4 percent this fiscal year.
Capcom says 93% of its game sales are now digital

This is omce again a very dishonest percentage as wevknow these companies count all downloads as digital sales, including individual pieces of DLC, as well as the fact theyvare lumping pc sales in with console.
But… It is a digital sale. They sell a piece of software… Digitally. Why wouldn’t it count?
I also feel like these numbers are skewed overall considering how hard it is to find physical copies of games now more than ever even at launch or the weeks after. Digital sales will of course rise when it’s the only option for a lot of people.
Exactly what Companies want and have been slowly pushing for decades. Once fully digital things will become worse. They manipulate the market for Digital. Screw Crapcom for jot giving a full physical copy of Resident Evil 9 on Nintendo and I’ll assume other platforms as well. Games used to be physical and complete in hox, no day one updates or required downloads. They made Sure the Gane was finished and ready to be sold and didn’t leave out content from the base game for roadmaps and DLC.
This is the #1 download-code-on-a-cartridge people, right? Obviously you aren’t gonna sell physical that way!!
Like most game companies. I mean there’s a reason Sony is moving more towards no discs and Nintendo seems to be following. Just saying its true not that I like it.
Well obviously if you start offering less and less physical product your digital percentage is going to go up. What a way to skew things.
You’ll own nothing, and be happy… lol. More like you’ll own nothing and the rights holders will be happy.
Capcom has confirmed they’re counting GKC as digital, so it makes sense also on that front.
This is probably best for almost all developers big or small. But I would say this. Remember when games came with like a booklet, sometimes like a cool card, or stickers, maybe a fold out map of the game world? Why not justify that with physical products again? Nintendo just said the quite part out loud here. OK charge less for digital….. OK well we could also see that as, charge more for physical, and hell maybe paying 70$+ for a game isn’t as bad cus it comes with physical stuff 🤷. I’m sorry Mario kart world is trash and I really tried to love it it…. It’s just trash. But hey I’ll bet if the physical came with stickers, a world map poster, and a small travel guide book…. Maybe a Keychain. I think the marketing and branding would have hit harder. Whatever it’s not about sales numbers is my point. It’s about branding and the physical product not appealing to the average user. But what I’m pointing out is that these could be opertunities to sell a more exciting physical product….. Look I bought a bioshock 2 box set that came with an art book, posters, and a fucking vynal record, and cd…it’s great branding and marketing
