Japan: Nintendo Switch 2 surpasses sales of base PS5 disc drive model

The latest Famitsu video game software and hardware charts have revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 has reached a minor sales milestone as it has outsold the PlayStation 5 model with a disc drive. Famitsu counts sales for separate models and while it hasn’t outsold the base PlayStation 5 console i.e both the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and PlayStation 5 Disc Drive Model combined, it has overtaken sales of the PS5 (Disc Drive Model) with Nintendo Switch 2 selling 5,940,500 units and PS5 (Disc Drive Model) selling 5,920,682.

Hardware Sales (followed by lifetime sales)

  1. Switch 2 – 26,435 (5,940,500)
  2. PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 8,024 (1,324,185)
  3. Switch OLED Model – 2,619 (9,593,258)
  4. Switch Lite – 2,446 (6,981,943)
  5. PlayStation 5 Pro – 1,165 (364,374)
  6. Switch – 402 (20,302,138)
  7. PlayStation 5 – 260 (5,920,682)
  8. Xbox Series X – 217 (327,837)
  9. Xbox Series X Digital Edition – 217 (32,455)
  10. Xbox Series S – 29 (342,474)

  1. Sony hasn’t been popular in Japan for a long time..

    As for Microsoft, I read that they were going to raise the price of the Series X in July and that’s going to hurt….

    But I’d really like to hear Nintendo’s critics with their nonsense, ‘The Switch 2 doesn’t sell here, there are tons of them in stores!!”

  2. Wait the Switch 2 sold more than 2 times the xbox and ps5 across all variants combined this past week? Nearly 3x the numbers combined
