Nash Weedle claims Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to Switch 2

A leaker who doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to leaks, Nash Weedle, has said that Grand Theft Auto VI is under development for the Nintendo Switch 2 for a release in 2027. Weedle’s X post was picked up by Vice who translated the tweet which said the following:

  • Technical hurdles have been overcome
  • Specialists in Switch 2 ports have been brought in via subcontract
  • They keep telling me it won’t arrive this year
  • More insiders confirm to me that they’ve also received information from their sources about this port

It would seem common sense for Rockstar Games to pursue a Nintendo Switch 2 port for the juggernaut that is GTA VI, but if it’s doable to a good standard remains to be seen. If it’s actually happening they will doing their damnedest to make sure it turns out well.

  1. I’ve been on this site long enough to remember the article where a leaker claimed there could be a “cocaine sniffing mini game” on the Wii U version of GTA V :,)

  2. Again, if Cyberpunk 2077 can run on Switch 2 pretty well, I don’t see why an optimised version of GTA VI can’t
But seeing them release a $100 version which hides a LOT of features behind the steep paywall really deters me from buying it

    1. cyberpunk was made for ps4 so that doesn’t show how a big ps5 game can. i don’t see it happen but i hope i’m wrong.

had the same reaction on the paywall, makes me way less interested

      1. But it’s the version that couldn’t run on PS4 as it has the DLC, which was only on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC + Mac, so that’s kinda why I feel GTA VI with some decent optimisation would work on Switch 2

        1. that whole launch on ps4 was a disaster wich they couldn’t repeat + they dropped support for the previous generation around that time.
you have to remember that the cpu in the switch 2 is at ps4 levels

    1. Honestly GTA hasn’t been good since 4, and who wants to pay $100 for the crap they’re putting out now? They fired all the original developers that worked on GTA all the way up to 5, and judging by the looks of the new development team, I don’t think this one will live up nowhere near the hype

      1. Go watch a digital foundry video, they say that even though the xbox series s has a better gpu, the upscaling system on the switch 2 can actually allow for sharper visuals then series s. Look at indiana jones and the great circle, that looks better on switch 2 then series s. Look up the digital foundry video if your curious.

        1. 60 fps on all consoles but 30 on switch 2.
that shows how good the nvidia upscaling is not how they can run it.
distant geomitry, shadows and vegitation is worse on switch 2 so better upscaling and worse graphical settings.

seems like you need to watch a comparison

          1. It’s a strange port because for what downgrades it has, it has an improvement compared to the series s. Sure you have worse shadows and textures, but the more compressed textures allowed for the game to fit on a cartridge compared to the series s which has an over 100 gigabyte download. Sure this version is 30 fps compared to 60 fps on the series s, but the upscaling allows for a sharper image then the soft series s.
All of this is explained in the digital foundry video.

            1. yes i know how an upscaler works that has nothing to do with how the cpu is compared to each other.
nothing in that video says the cpu is comparable

      2. In terms of raw power they’re about the same…and talking only about the processor is too simplistic. It’s the optimization that matters, and from that point of view Nvidia has a lead (even 2) over AMD.

        1. 10-15 watts to reach ps4 levels is not optimised enough for you?
raw power is no where close, could the switch 2 run games like xbox series s without upscaler like it’s doing?. it’s only thanks to nvidia dlss that people claims these things take that away and look at raw power like you want.

  3. This is pretty awesome yeah I’d love to see it. I’m not picking up the game personally but still lol

Always keep in mind, compared to what this cost to develop subcontracting specialists is pennies for them. And also, fhe Switch 2 sold 20 million units and is projected to do insane numbers long-term. And it runs on series s. And Switch 2 has dlss. And with console prices increasing there are a lot of people out there that just picked a Switch 2 and have no other means to play this game. And Nintendo has likely reached out to them and offered any necessary resources to faciliate a port (keep in mind they’ve had a dev kit for over a year now)

I might not be 100% on this specific leak but I believe 1000% it will come to Switch 2. It’s the biggest handheld on the market and is on par with series s.

  4. Honestly GTA hasn’t been good since 4, and with 6 being $100 code in the box, it simply wouldn’t be worth it to me, and it shouldn’t be to anyone else either. Rockstar fired their original team that worked on GTA all the way up till 5, and judging by the looks of the new development team, I don’t think this is going to live up to nowhere near the hype.
