Job listing suggests Nintendo is still looking into Switch 2 docked VRR

The Nintendo Switch 2 system features variable refresh rate when it is played in handheld mode, but sadly the feature is not yet working in docked mode. You may remember that Nintendo initially advertised VRR in docked mode on its system blurb, but pulled that specific feature from its listings. Now it has emerged that Nintendo could still be pursuing VRR in docked mode via a new job listing for a Senior Display Engineer with the applicant needing “knowledge of display technologies such as HDR and VRR.” Sony’s PlayStation 5 didn’t support VRR right off the bat and it took two years after launch for it to receive it. VRR only works on modern TV sets which have an HDMI 2.1 connection and these usually retail at the higher price bracket like the LG C4 and C5 etc.

  1. It would be nice if they made a switch 2 dock pro with the ability to output at 120 fps at 4k simultaneously with VVR. I would love to play silksong in 4k 120 fps.

    1. First thought; why, who wants this, there’s enough VR out there if people want it, resources could go to more wanted games. But Nintendo knows how to surprise so maybe they’d do something new with VR.

      1. I would buy some Nintendo VR if it was full games in actual VR with motion controls. If Zelda Breath of the Wild had the motion controls, I’d buy the necessary equipment to access its VR mode. I love my PSVR2.

    2. there’s no need for a dock pro because the dock itself of the Switch 2 is already HDMI 2.1 which supports 4k120fps (if you connect it to a Steam Deck it can do 4k120fps already), a firmware update from Nintendo could solve this.

    3. it comes down to hardware limitations when it comes to 4k tbh, I’m honestly now curious if the switch 2 could achieve that on any of its games

  2. Anonymous Skywalker

I mean PS5 had similar issues with this not being available at launch and only after like a year they updated the console to support it, this will be no different. I say they should take their time because when Sony did update the PS5 to have VVR it was buggy.
