If you’ve been keeping up with the news on the Nintendo Switch 2’s various features and functionality, you may recall last month that all references to VRR were mysteriously removed from their website, leaving the question open as to whether or not the console would support it. Nintendo have now issued a statement clarifying this, which you can see below:
Nintendo Switch 2 supports VRR in handheld mode only. The incorrect information was initially published on the Nintendo Switch 2 website, and we apologise for the error.
Regarding the possibility of VRR eventually being supported in docked mode via an update, Nintendo stated that they have nothing to announce at this time.

That handheld screen is specced so nicely (120fps, HDR, VRR) that I wonder if honestly it’s going to often deliver nicer results than just playing on your TV.
Not surprising but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen someday.. Nvidia keeps supporting its graphics cards from the 1000 series up to the current 5000 series, the updates for the new Switch will have something other than “better system stability” ^^

At a guess, it’s because they want their console to hit a set target, and will use the VRR in handheld mode in order to try to get that version to match, despite processing at half the power.
The difference between the two is estimated to be the same as Switch 1 between docked and handheld, which was A LOT. So using this to narrow that gap is very welcome
