Nintendo releases high res images of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet on Switch 2

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games

We received news earlier today of some of the software updates which will be rolling out on 5th June for Nintendo Switch games on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. These are not dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 editions, but instead are smaller free software updates which bump up the game’s resolution and frame rate, basically taking advantage of the more powerful hardware. Check out two high resolution images of the often derided Pokemon Scarlet & Violet running on the Nintendo Switch 2.

  1. So the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade is free and not $10, not all games with a next gen upgrade will have a fee similar to how PlayStation is.

    1. The Last of Us – Part II 60fps upgrade was also free (not the official Remastered that came later, but there was a performance update for the original game on PS5 three years ago). Same with InFamous: Second Son. So it seems to be exactly the same: Some games get paid upgrades with new features to justify the re-release, some games just get a free performance update.

  2. So I don’t understand their reason for charging for Zelda when it’s just the same type of improvement… What do they justify this with? For the extra smartphone application? The 4k improvement ‘has’ to be paid for?

    1. I’m almost positive that when Zelda came out there wasn’t outrage from the fans. So then charging doesn’t seem out of pocket (at least to them) now when Pokemon came out, hell broke lose. Now imagine Nintendo announcing that they were going to charge to fix a game they released broken and never fixed? That would bring the outrage back in a second.

  3. Probably has something to do with Pokémon s&v being a very poor experience when it launched and it really needs this. While Zelda was a much better experience that doesn’t really need improvements to enjoy.

    1. It’s still a bit light and I’m still skeptical about the reasons you mention… I actually think that if they want to charge, they will, but for Zelda, nothing justifies the extra 10€ for me!

      1. Anonymous Skywalker

Zelda is a high value IP which is justified, it’s their CoD except they don’t butcher 80% of their game and lock that behind multiple paywalls plus they don’t do human gestational period launches.

  4. It looks sharper but the base was ugly anyway so there’s only so much better it could look. At least it is an improvement I can see so that’s something

  5. This really does not look all that different than the current version. PS5 games are the same way when you upgrade from the PS4 version to the PS5 version. Not enough to actually see a difference.

  6. The difference being? I’m sorry but as a adult I don’t see how buying the same game for a newer version of a system that can play the original games makes sense.
