Square Enix finally revealed that Final Fantasy XIV is heading to the Nintendo Switch 2 platform this summer and there’s a lot of content to sink your teeth into. However, Yoshi P says that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game will feature some framerate issues, but it’s doing all it can to mitigate them as the team is striving to get the best performance out of the system. Here’s what he said:
“I want to be honest with you, we are working really hard on the optimisation,” he said, on the topic of the console’s specs, continuing, “We are striving to get the best performance.”
He noted that, in certain areas, players may see framerate drops, explaining, “I think with the towns, you may see a lower framerate, only because there are so many players that are rendered on the screen.”
“We are still able to reach 30 frames per second in a stable state, and so, considering Duty content, I think the performance is something that you don’t have to be concerned about.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 is a wonderful console, and I think you can choose the way you want to play,” he noted, referencing the differences between docked and handheld mode, and the availability of mouse controls.
“You are more free to choose which mode to play in, so I hope that players will find the way to play that is most suited for themselves.”

This game barely runs on my computer, and I have a pretty decent computer, so I will take what I can get! They still have 4 months to polish and optimize, so I think it will get better.
This game barely runs on my Switch 2, and I have a pretty new Switch 2, so I will return what I have got! They had 4 months to polish and optimize, and it did not get better.
Did you even read my comment? Also why 67? Did you want me to die of cringe?
The game really isn’t that difficult to run, it sounds like your PC isn’t as “decent” as you seem to think it is.
Games usually run fine on my computer, but they arent that stable depending on the software. I have an ultrawide screen monitor and that usually makes games run worse.
The way I’m reading this, is that the highly populated areas can lower the frame rate to 30fps…
Yes, he said highly populated areas can have a floor of 30fps. So don’t play on Balmung. Hope this helps 👍🏾
Nowhere in the quote does it use the phrase “frame rate issues”. Why paraphrase that in the headline?
Spoiler alert, most MMOs chug in major towns. WoW chugs in major towns on my Steam Deck!
This isn’t an issue with the SW2 not running the game smoothly, it’s the issue that a lot of MMOs are like this even if you have a high tier gaming rig, too many people in one area will dip in frames and that is something devs can only do so much just to keep the game from crashing. In short, stay away from heavily populated areas to avoid or minimize your frames from dying and come back when there’s not that many.
Port 15 instead.
If better graphics supposedly didn’t convince people to buy Smash for Wii U, why should better graphics convince them to buy a gaming PC? The double standards of kids these days.
