James Turner, who was the art director at Game Freak and left to make The Plucky Squire, has announced that he’s back working for The Pokemon Company. He said on X that he has started a new role as the Creative Director of Pokemon Art and Design so he will be handling the media artwork for The Pokemon Company. We wish James the best of luck with his new role.

I felt the same with his BW designs, but after some time, I started liking them. They have this cartoony feel to them.

I’m absolutely hyped for this. He seems like a great guy and I love his art and style. He did a fantastic job as Sword & Shield’s art director and recently did his own game, The Plucky Squire. The art direction of SWSH was my favorite part of that entire game
I never heard of this guy before but I’m glad he is back to the company he worked with.
He’s been very heavily involved in the last handful of Pokemon games, but what put his name out there was that he was the first person outside of japan to design pokemon. He was also the guy that directed The plucky Squire, and HarmoKnight. He has his own distinctive art style. The one thing I like about him is that he designed both Gigantimax chubby Pikachu and Gengar.
Ahh I see. I really love his style and design flaws. Interesting.
At least he didn’t let his dented pride stop him from coming back to game freak after his failure to go it alone.
