Sega Is Preparing To Cancel Games And Concentrate On Popular IP’s

Sega Japan has announced that it plans to reorganise its Western operations due to the financial losses the company has acquired. Sega plans to cancel some of its games that are currently in development and concentrate their efforts of popular existing IP’s such as the Sonic series along with Football Manager, Aliens and others.

    1. Damn it! Nooo I want my PSO2 fill. Well they didn’t specify so many it wasn’t hit. It is afterall getting extra development time

  1. What Sega needs to do is sell themselves to Nintendo. The aquisition of Sega would make Nintendo even better, imo. I know that’s not going to happen soon, with Nintendo focusing on their Wii U launch, but I think it should happen eventually.

    Leave luck to heaven.

          1. I just did some research, Wikipedia is my friend. Yh, Sammy owns Sega but if the company is losing money the option to buy may become available again.

  2. @ donzaloog, it almost happened when sega was getting out of the hardware biz. there were rumors flying around that Nintendo was in talks of acquiring sega back then

  3. Canceling Sonic games are they on crack or something. Western games are what made them in this situation. Why do you think Nintendo doesn’t allow western IPs because it dont sell.

  4. They made a 7.1 Billion Yen/$85 million dollar loss for the most recent financial year (look it up, it’s everywhere), no doubt they’re gonna have to just pump out a ton of sonic, football manager and movie tie-ins while they try to earn that money back. I think this pretty much means no more Yakuza games for the west for a while, unfortunately.

Sucks, ‘cos I feel they’ve actually been really good for the last 2-ish years. I could’ve sworn they made a decent profit for the last few years too…

  6. That’s what you get for not supporting Nintendo hardware I guess, just like all the other companies that went bust.

No Sonic Gnerations on Wii was just one of many idiotic choices for example.
