Wii U Darksiders 2 Graphics ‘As Good As’ Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3

Vigil Games the development studio behind Darksiders 2 has revealed that the game’s visuals are “at least as good” as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. The developer once again stated that they aren’t able to discuss the systems visual capabilities, but concluded that they are on par with the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

  1. The most important thing about what he said is that he can’t say much. Don’t focus on anything else or misinterpret what he said, but just know that he could only say that much.

    1. Fully agree. The play on words, intentional or not, is how these debates on the GPU capability of the Wii U constantly comes into question. If he had said the PS3 and the Xbox360 visuals are on par with the Wii U then we would not have these battles with fanboys.

      1. The Wii U might have more power, sometimes games are kept at the same level of graphics between systems.

        1. @ Air

Not might… will have better GPU performance. Listen, it is less than three weeks left to E3 2012.. try not to get caught up in all this crazy talk of the Wii U being a supercomputer with future GPU or it being less powerful than the Atari (clearly i am exaggerate what being post on this site and others.)

  2. The whole as good as Xbox/PS3 graphics is really annoying. It makes me second guess the fact that they’re obviously better, and you get eejits who have no idea what they are talking being all smug sayin things like, ‘the graphics are quite similar’ when they have no idea what they’re talkin about and think they do.

  3. Yup. Another dev that “loved” the wii u when it was first announced, and yet this is the second time they have talked down on the wii u.

Until the game releases and we get comparison vids I wouldn’t listen to vigil games anymore. They keep flipping their stance on how the wii u is.

    1. It has nothing to do with the Wii U capabilities. It has everything to do with that it’s a port, therefore not really getting a bump in the graphics department.

    2. i saw no talking down, in fact it seems that they’re disproving the rumors that it isn’t as powerful as the 360 and ps3

    3. Yes, because they totally just said something negative about the system.
Sarcasm aside, they said nothing about the system itself. All they said is that the game is running on the system.

    4. They didn’t talk down the Wii U. Vigil has always stated that they were going to keep the Wii U version on par with the others. That’s not an insult to the Wii U, they’re just saying they want to keep all versions of the game at the same level, graphically.

      1. You can tell Vigil is just dying to say that the Wii U is very powerful, but because of NDAs, they can’t say it at all.

  4. This is why I said don’t buy this game for the Wii U. This studio is going to be happy with just a simple port adding some controller intergration and calling it a day. When you hear gearbox software talk about the Wii U being next gen and easily their game will look better on the system. The development team is just lazy. Don’t buy it wait for real games and development teams that take advantage of the hardware.

    1. really?I guess Gearbox devs are maybe just sure they may talk about that much.
Maybe it will have much bestter Graphics but they may not say this ……becau

    1. Then which one would be the original? It’s not a port if it’s being developed for multiple systems at once.

  5. well, the fact is, he said “at least” which is actually pretty decent for the start of a next gen console. Just shows he hasnt tapped into the true potential of the wiiU yet

  6. I believe the Wii U is very powerful. Valve just didn’t want to take the time and upgrade the Wii U’s version. I mean really, its a next Gen system!!! I don’t see why it would be on par with current Gen. Take this with a grain of salt.

    1. it’s a port though.. Most ports don’t take advantage of next-gen systems. So don’t base how powerful a console is judging by a port of a current gen game.

    2. it ist at least on the same level. With VIGIL not being allowed to say WiiUs Graphics are much better(cause this would reveal to much of eventual power),this just means it will be better graphically.

  7. This is to be expected with ports. It should still be worth picking up. I hope there’s a playable demo on the show floor at E3. Leave luck to heaven.

  8. so what colonial marines and assassins creed confirmed to look way better already this game is kinda over-rated

  9. Stop! Stop with the rumours and unclear comments! Give me facts people! Or a wormhole to 5 June, that’ll be okay too ^~^

  10. He wasn’t really talking down the system, nor were they doing that with their “on par” comment from a few months back. They’re talking about their game and not the system. Anyone here even played the first Darksiders? The PC version did not offer better graphics or any noticeable feature over the console versions. Does that mean the PC is underpowered? It’s a decision made by developers/publishers based on budget, time, manpower, etc. The Wii U is a new system, and they require more people to work on a new platform for porting the game over. Most studios have different teams focused on different platforms.

The sad part is that the people/media only focus on the negative comments and assume the worst without looking at the bigger picture.

  11. So he says the system doesn’t have enough shaders and now he is saying that the Wii U is good as the other consoles

  13. This just means they’re considering directly porting the game, rather than upping the graphics. This doesn’t mean they can’t, they just haven’t decided if they will. This is more so a compliment to the Wii Us capabilities, though, kinda stinks that it might not have better graphics. On the brights side, shouldn’t have any frame rate issues and the game still looks awesome, so I’ll take it.

    1. I meant might not have better graphics for this game. I’ve really looked forward to this game and think it deserves even just a slight boost, since it is strong enough, and will have probably over a month of extra time to work on it after the initial release for Xbox and ps

  14. An article like this was already posted on here. This is old news. This in no way confirms that the Wii U’s graphics are exactly like the PS3’s or Xbox 360’s. For all we know the Wii U’s graphics could be better.

  17. Before that one guy comes here and assumes this is the Wii U being talked down…

Realize that “at least as good” means that the Wii U can at least handle 360/PS3-level graphics and not as necessarily meaning the system’s peak potential is at 360/PS3-level graphical capability. This is just a port, after all, and even on the 360/PS3 consoles, the graphics for this particular game are not particularly the most impressive.

This game doesn’t even push the current-gen consoles’ fuller potential. (I’ve always thought this game looks on par with an early Xbox 360 game, to be honest.) Of course, games designed to be ported across multiple platforms rarely ever do.

Anyways, though no further information is given yet, this implication stands as more positive news than anything negative. We’ll know more for sure in just 12 days!

    1. It’s more so the way the author of the article relayed the information. He or she totally took that the wrong direction, and they continue this belief with the next darksiders2 article they have. It’s just annoying at this point, we know it’ll be better
