Nintendo detailed many functions of the Wii U GamePad during the pre-E3 Nintendo Direct. Nintendo revealed that you can use it as a universal TV remote – all you have to do is press the TV Control Button, which is just left of the Power Button. Nintendo also promised that the Wii U GamePad will act as a TV guide by showing information about television programs on its touchscreen.
This is actually pretty neat.
I can get rid of the remote in my room now.
This is one of the things that surprised me the most in the N-Direct conference.
Non-Specific Action Figure FTW!!!!!!
I demand a Non-Specific Action Figure on every WiiU!
i want Non-Specific Action Figure in ssb4
Man your one mother of gamers genius I SALUTE YOU!!!
^this
Hi i just been born my name is Non-Specific Action Figure and i aprove my message
Together Wii U.
You know what? I have two TVs in my room so this is entirely useless for me.
You can use it on both….
Why do you need two TV’s in the same room?
Why not?
I prefer using two TVs to watch TV and play games at the same time. I did it all last year and I like the set up. Sometimes, I do not have time to watch TV and I prefer to play games more because nothing is interesting on. However, multi-tasking with two TVs made it more entertaining and less time-consuming.
Why would you need two TVs on your room… and are you watching both at the same time? So i doubt this is a useless feature.
Maybe it’ll only be universal for the tv the system is hooked up to.
Now that device would be pretty hot. I wonder if it’s compatible to HD cable box converter like TimeWarner or Comcast. Anyway, Nintendo really put the U in universal. Thanks for sharing this topic Alba.
That is something I want to know too.
i heard that the big n is partnering with comcast so that may happen
Not only that, the Big N is also partnering with TimeWarner!!!
Hopefully this is true, that way I will never lose my remote ever again.
If you did lose it, it would be kind of ridiculous now with how big the Wii U controller is, I’m sure I’ll manage to do just that XD
Still keeping my remote. I have no idea if it can be used while you’re playing a game and it obviously won’t have every button.
being virtual it could have every button ever made and more. and yes turning on the tv is a phisical button so yes it can be used while playing games
If this is compatible with AT&T U-Verse, it will be helpful because their (U-verse) remote sucks! I find the iPad app worked better than their own remote. I just hope the Wii U GamePad’s screen will have tactile feedback like Android devices (and unlike iPad).
It’s going to okay for here in the UK.
Whilst it’ll be okay for the main TV functions, and possibly built in Freeview, it’ll still be partially useless for anyone with Sky/External Freeview Box.
Plus, the fact that with all universal remote controls, you’ll likely have to go trying random codse till it matches your TV.
Random, but pretty cool actually. I always hated using my dumb tv remote…
what else can this controller can do.
You’ll find out Tuesday.
Well this solves the problem of losing the remote and not being able to find it.
i hope you can aim the tv remote at the wii u gamepad and have it copy the signal
Next: some asian guys uses the controller to control a robot.
Zangief: QUICK… CHANGE THE CHANNEL!!!!!
Hope it works with Directv probably not but i can dream.
The best thing? Its huge, YOU NEVER GONNA LOST IT IN THE SOFA!
Awesome!
Please work with Uverse, please work with Uverse.
does it work with UVERSE
Very cool.
