Madden 13 For Wii U Won’t Use The High Tech Infinity Engine

EA has announced that the Wii U version of Madden 13 won’t be running on the company’s new Infinity Engine. The Infinity Engine was originally designed to incorporate more dynamic animations and collision detection, but the team at EA hasn’t been able to incorporate it into the Wii U version. EA also announced via a press release that Madden 13 will only be released in North America.

Don’t you think Nintendo consumers are going to be frustrated by getting an inferior version of “Madden” again? The Infinity Engine is what defines “Madden 13,” yet it’s nowhere to be seen on the Wii U.

“It’s not for a lack of want. We definitely wanted to get the physics into the game. The Infinity Engine is something that is a point of interest for “Madden” fans, it’s just something we weren’t able to achieve for this first year on the new hardware. A lot of times, new hardware comes with new challenges. But we were able to add things to “Madden” on a lot of different levels, like being able to draw your own hot routes and being able to change your plays on the fly and create your own plays, giving you the ability to do whatever you want to do pre-play. Play-calling is another area that could be underestimated at face value. You have your playbook fully exposed to you. You don’t have to dig through menus and dig back out of menus to find the perfect play. There’s a lot of searching around, I think, on the other consoles. Just the way it’s laid out enables you to access everything very quickly. Then, of course, you’re able to utilize substitutions and packages, making changes very simply and very intuitively by just tapping and swiping the screen.”

    1. Yeah, and you can tell by the foul smell of the Wii fouling up it’s successor. Living up to that Wii quality, LOL.

      1. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots says:

Hey, Aeolus is back. You do know that your you avatar looks like a penis. This is just EA, it’s nothing new. There’s always some hook behind it.

        1. Your answer to someone you think is being stupid is, apparently, to out-stupid them, with what you put in the “Name” field?

Cool non-logic, bro. Way to prove all those “Nintendo fanboys are the worst” people wrong.

        1. actually you cunt if you read what he said … wiiU is shaping up just like to be his dad the Wii in terms of quality aka nothing but shovelware and gimped ports.

please learn to read before commenting

          1. You have absolutely no logic at all, troll… even Mr. Spock knows about you. The Wii U is a revolutionary console that has better graphics than the original Wii and has better gameplay when using the touchscreen Game Pad and the Pro Controller.

    1. I wouldn’t necessarily call people who are concerned by this story trolls. On one hand, would we have expected the Infinity Engine to be implementable during the 1st year on the PS3 or Xbox 360? Probably not. But, on the other hand, there are plenty of people on here wilfully misinterpreting the casual statement that “The WiiU is at least as powerful as the Xbox 360″ to mean that “The worst performance the WiiU will possibly be capable of is the absolute best that the Xbox 360 is capable of”, so this really ought to be a reality check for those people.

      1. Thas still a possibility this doesn’t mean anything if u knew anything about hardware u would know this don’t be ignorant

      1. Probably madden 13 for Wii U will be the better version with better visual, physics is a good thing but don’t improve visuals, instead, tries to imitate our reality like it is, like always, you talk nonsense.

  1. Well that doesn’t sound good. I’m not really interested in sports games, but this will not bode well with people who believed the game would be of the same powerful graphics as current consoles’ Madden 13, especially since the Wii U is an HD console.

  2. This makes sense. They can’t delay this game too much on Wii U, or it would start to bump up against next year’s version.

So, it makes sense to get the game in this year, and work the engine in for next year’s version. It’s better than getting nothing at all, and having them skip this year because they couldn’ tget the engine year.

IF you want to assign blame, blame the Madden model with mandatory yearly installments. It basically forces you to release a game within a date window regardless of quality or delays.

    1. Instead of doing all that, why don’t they just port the PS3 or 360 versions of the game? If the other developers can do it, why can’t they? Heck, they did it with their Fifa 13, so what’s up with that? This is just an excuse and just plain lazy to grab extra money by releasing this crappy version.

    1. That’s just the point. They can’t delay it. That’s the Madden model, and I hate it. If you delay it, it bumps up closer to the next version. They either get it in within a certain window or they don’t get it in at all.

  3. a shit I don’t give as I play fifa only. even if fifa isn’t running whatever engine he mentioned I’m still going to play and enjoy it.

  4. am not one for madden but the EA team are just being lazy by not using the new engine am sure the wii u isn’t that hard to make games on.

  5. LOL.

If it’s such a “next gen” console, why is it that this PORT is missing out on such an engine?

Gameplay over graphics alright. Enjoy gimmicky touch controls over an immersive experience, it’s the Wii all over again.

    1. The huge success of every handheld in the DS range (plus all multi-touch smartphones and tablets) has proven that touch controls are well beyond being just ‘gimmicky’. Sometime you actually have a point, but that one is utter bilge. I assume that you disdain both the PSVita and Microsoft SmartGlass too, seeing as they’re both touch screen reliant?

      1. Funny thing about those smartphones and tablets. It’s as if it’s a disease, at least from where I live. Yeah, touchscreen controls sure are gimmicky, except people pay more for those stupid apps than real video games these days. Smart move by Apple, but it’s a bane to video games.

          1. Breaching? Nintendo has been on the touch-screen business with the DS, and Microsoft with the Tablet PC even before the iDevices came out.

            1. Thank you for kindly telling me something I never knew and not being a jerk about it. About Wii U’s tablet though… Nintendo made a statement that they believe every household has at least one tablet. I believe that’s why Nintendo is deliberately using the tablet concept.

              1. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots says:

Why should they? If everyone has a tablet, why get another one (Despite the fact that the Wii U’s GamePad isn’t a tablet, but a tablet looking controller.)?

    2. So Ubisoft didnt put AnvilNext on the WiiU and have it running at a higher standard than the ps3 and 360? Crytek didnt get CryEngine3 running, quote, “beautifully” on the WiiU.
Its laziness, thats it. They just can be bothered, putting effort into working out how to use the hardware, they’ll wait for another developer of EA to do it, and then they’ll use it.

    3. WOW YOU MUST NOT HAVE A LIFE YOUR A HATER OF THE WII U AND YOU STAY ON THIS WEBSITE DAY AND NIGHT ITS THE SAME THING THAT HAPPEN WITH THE VITA FIFA. THIS DOESNT SHOW FUCK ALL ABOUT THE POWER OF THE WII U THE WII U IS A BEAST UBISOFT EA TQ WARNER BROS AND MORE HAS SAID ITS MORE PWERFUL THAN THIS GEN OF CONSOLE JUST LOOK AT LAUCH IT HAS BETTER GAPHICS THAT THE PS360 SO THINK WAS IT WILL BE LIKE IN A YEAR OR TWO Aeolus YOUR A DISGRACE TO GAMERS LET A LIFE

    4. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots says:

      Great question, let’s ask CryTek.
Hmm, it’s seems as if CryEngine 3 is working on the Wii U, which is a next gen engine looking at it from the PC version of the engine.

    5. Because of gimmicky touch controls??? Do you even know what immersive experience means?

Hmm ok, let’s do iqual PS360, let’s pause the game and change one little thing, and go back to the game, and let’s do this several times because this is a much better immersive experience…. you are so funny, next nonsense comment is…?

    6. You clearly didn’t read the article. They have been able to build the engine around Wii U yet, its not that it can’t handle it. Its still the first year of new hardware. It will be in next years or have a new engine if the make one.

  6. not a shocker. EA are lazy with new hardware. The fifa released @ launch for vita used the fifa 11 engine even tho fifa 12had already been out for 5 months.

      1. thats because they (sickr or alba) remove some comment above your reply, cause the comments reply to turn into normal comments; the pic turn small that means that it use to be a reply to an argument.

  7. Oh come on, thats BS. Crytek can put their engine on, Ubisoft can put AnvilNext on, theres no excuse, its just pure laziness or lack of employees that actually know what theyre doing. I mean, yes, developers are bound to not know how to use the hardware to its full potential in its first year, that happened last gen, and happened the year before that. But its not drastically different that you look at it and go “durrr, wat i do? It not 360?”.

            1. oh shit! Im sorry, again it was my annoying little brother, im sure he wont spam, the put a password on the computer :)

    1. IDK man they come out with a new madden every year, so why not just get ONE of the series every 4 years. I get the teams are different but really!? Even mario does come out with a NSMB EVERY YEAR

      1. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots says:

        O rly?
New Super Mario Bros. – 2006
New Super Mario Bros. Wii – 2009
        New Super Mario Bros. 2 – 2012
        New Super Mario Bros. U – 2012
Hmm, 4 games, and the series started in 2006, I have a question, are you a idiot?
I hate you biased assholes who are ”so fed up with NSMB games”, how can you be fed up with 4 games in 6 years?

        1. THE FUCK! I AINT FED UP! I was fed up with MADDEN! What a misunderstanding! And i meant, you dont see a NEW NSMB game EVERY SINGLE YEAR like MADDEN

          1. well the difference between mario 2d and madden is that mario 2d come 1 per console and madden more than 5 per console. people think mario 2d is milking because it come every year….what??? every year, im sorry i find those BS.

              1. ok i re-read what i wrote after that i replied saying DOESNT because i wrote DOES by mistake, IM SORRY! :( I LOVE MARIO!

  8. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots says:

This announcement is just Ea in a nutshell, let’s take something away from the (probably) most succesfull version of the game, to re-release as the sequel next year.

  9. I’ll say a few more things: Even these cheap ports are looking to work so well on Wii U. It’s scary and really not was I expected. Here I was thinking I’d get Pikmin 3 and Mario, or Zombi U and Rayman and call it a day for launch.

But Mass Effect 3 on Wii U? The demo they showed looks awesome with the hot keys on the touch pad, easily accessible with your thumb, and off screen play confirmed. Being able to move your squad around with a simple finger swipe on the Gamepad? (Confirmed) That’s THE definitive version for me, and if the game (or franchise) is as good as people say it is I’d get it on Wii U even if I had already played it elsewhere.

Then there’s Madden, when you think about it Football games were MADE for touchscreen and a separate view. You kidding me? Being able to easily draw and move your route right there and not show on the main screen? I would have been happy if they ported Madden 2003 ( good game, by the way) with those features, let alone 2013 with just the physics engine not being the very latest.

And we’re just talking launch window here. Not too bad at all. There’s no way in hell I’ll get to play all these games until E3 or the next round come out. And that’s not even mentioning Scriblenaults and Nintendo Land which will all be, at the very least, good games.

    1. I couldn’t agree more. People just want more and more and more instead of being happy with the amazing console the Wii U will be.

      1. Yeah, exactly.

And when Nintendo goes out and announces a REASONABLE price instead of the crazy price that we’d get if it was insanely/otherworldly powerful…. people will understand Nintendo.

It’s like the whole multiple Gamepad argument. Two pads running on 720p and 30fps? That’s great! Most non-pc games nowadays run 30 fps anyways. And if Nintendo built-in enough horsepower to Wii U to run 3 or 4 or whatever pads, it’d be a waste of resources. And tell me who’s creating a game that assumes you bought 3 more $100 controllers? People, that’s unreasonable!

Some just don’t get sometimes that adding power = adding price. And if you want a successful console, you want it to be affordable so it sells. Once it sells, the console gets more attention and we all get even more games. It’s like a snowball. Unless you are willing to let the cost spiral, you have to find a sweet spot. The cost of technology is not linear. The higher you get, the progressively more expensive it gets.

So, I’m happy at what’s happening. An HD console, that’s slightly more powerful than the current gen, yet will sell at likely current gen pricing.

I almost want to see XBox AND PS both try torelease an ultra-powerful console having to charge 400-500+ just to barely break even. If they both do that, only one of the two would survive.

        1. You understand the current situation in gaming perfectly. Nintendo is not stupid. They know exactly what they’re doing with the Wii U. I’m looking forward to picking up as many games as possible at launch. This is probably the best launch lineup in history.

  10. Actually this might be a better trade off, cause u have more control over the game. Read the whole article then u’ll understand the benefits

  11. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots says:

Wow, EA. I just read an article in which EA said the Wii U version would be ”the real deal”, you changed your mind pretty quickly, I didn’t know you can change engines in a couple of days LMAO

    1. Exactly this.
They had a hard time figuring out how to best implement their hardware with the new stuff the Wii U brings to the table, so they went with something else when they couldn’t do it in a specific time frame.
The idiots saying “it’s the Wii all over again” don’t have the right to take their foots out of their mouths yet.XD

  12. Things happen. They couldn’t get the engine to work properly. I’ve had that problem with some programs on different computers. Hardware is strange like that. Well next year problem should be solved. I will be buying the Wii U version to see the difference. I don’t have to buy one of the other console versions. My brother in law will do that so I’ll at least play both versions.

  13. well i tell you what, this is not going to be a big problem for me because i have played it on the PS3 and i got a taste of what the new engine is and it really doesnt need to be in the game cause the animations are silly, i mean players are falling all over each other and whatnot. i will get this for the Wii U regardless
