Ace Attorney Creator Has “Mixed Feelings” About The Return Of Phoenix Wright In Dual Destinies

phoenix_wright_dual_destinies_charactersPhoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies’ release may only be less than a month away now, but Shu Takumi – the creator of the Ace Attorney series – has mixed feelings about Capcom’s decision to bring back Phoenix Wright. Although Takumi developed and wrote the story for Professor Layton Vs Ace Attorney, he wasn’t involved with Dual Destinies.

But in an interview with the Official Nintendo Magazine, Takumi expressed his opinion on the matter saying that bringing in other creators was a viable choice for the game’s future development. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies will be released digitally for the Nintendo 3DS on October 24 in North America and Europe.

“I do have mixed feelings about it sometimes. For instance, I was really surprised to see that after we focused on the new character of Apollo in the fourth game, the Dual Destinies team decided to bring Phoenix back. Ultimately, though, having creators other than myself take the helm is a valid choice, as it brings new directions and new story possibilities.

“The team on the new game have looked at what the essence of Ace Attorney is, and as long as they can give the fans another great game to enjoy, I’ll be happy. After all, the fact that the series is still going over a decade after I made the first game is something I couldn’t possibly have imagined in the first place.”

  1. Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen a post so uncommented O___O
On the other hand, I love Phoenix Wright. I’ve only played the first two games and O thought that they were fantastic

  2. I’m a hardcore fan of the series. I owned all the AA games in the US and played AAI2 for a bit. I’m glad Dual Destinies and PLvs.AA is coming to the US and but I’m still disappointed AAI2 hasn’t been license for all this time to translate it to bring it to the US.

Regardless, I’m still getting Dual Destinies anyway. Then, I’ll be the judge of it to decide whether if Shu Takumi’s “mixed feelings about Capcom’s decision” were correct or not, since, as of recently, Capcom is NOT doing well, according to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RWTefnWlYE

  3. Phoenix was never my favorite character or anything, but I’m sure I wasn’t alone in feeling upset when he suddenly became hobo!Phoenix in Apollo Justice. :/ Personally, I’m happy he’s back. It’d be sensible to change leads after a while, but…Phoenix’ departure was just too…abrupt.
