In yesterday’s Super Smash Bros. pic of the day, series director Masahiro Sakurai revealed a redesigned Ray Gun. With every game in the series, the projectile item is carefully designed so that it won’t resemble an actual gun, according to Sakurai. The Ray Gun has appeared in every Super Smash Bros. game to date, and will be featured in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
“We design the Ray Gun carefully each time to ensure it doesn’t look like a real gun,” wrote Sakurai on Miiverse.

This is not a Raygun! This looks like something out of Ratchet and Clank. That’s usually not a bad thing, but in this case, I just don’t like it. We’ve crossed the line on how cartoony something should look!
On the bright side, I’ve finally gotten my first Wii U game. My bro ended up buying Sonic Lost World so I’ll be starting it tomorrow! (Tomorrow is in 15 minutes for me!)

What!? How does it not look cartoony? It looks like something out of Duck Dodgers or the previously mentioned Ratchet and Clank. The Ray Gun in Melee and Brawl looked really cool and sci-fi without being cartoony
Dude its just Item its not a big deal, plus Rachet and clank were not the first too use complex weapons, it may look like it to you, but to others it may not.
Yeah, it all comes down to opinion of course and I’m sure that many will like it and many will not. I just think that Nintendo is focusing on change in the minor stuff too much while not enough in the big stuff. (Characters)
its more of a big deal than u think. everytime that item pops up in the game i’m going to see nintendo characters wielding marvin the martian’s ray gun. it’s like as bad of a design as wolf’s gun in brawl with the out of place blade on the end.

Wonderful 101 sounds really awesome and that is surprisingly at the top of my Wii U list. (3D World will be close though and I definitely want to own it as soon as possible!) I’ve been liking everything that I’ve heard about the game like the fact that it is pretty challenging and the advanced control scheme while it may take a while to get used to, it will be worth it!!
It fits pretty well with the galaxy stage
I’m very surprised that the NES Zapper gun never appeared in these games. It’s such a classic.
The super scope made it in, may not be the zapper but was close enough. I hope sakurai brings in more of kid icarus’s mini wepons, like atlas’s foot.
The Zapper is SO much better than the Super Scope though.

Odd considering how fox’s blaster is designed, don’t know why they would go this far to avoid making it not look like a gun when Fox’s blaster is pretty close to looking like a gun.
because Fox is known to use a Gun. the reason they want to avoid pick up items looking like a gun is because a family friendly character like mario would be using it. So for Fox or Samus, it is fine that they have guns but Mario, Yoshi, Pikachu especially. that is a red flag.

The more I look at it the more I like it. It looks like it belongs in a silly, fun cartoony game like Smash. I think it will fit right in.
Ignoring I like the new gun myself.
You forgot to mention the stamp design.
It should be pretty awesome to shoot and a Smash Bros symbol sear may be left on target.
Sleek. Never liked that ugly, boxy old gun, looked like a remnant of Nintendo 64, if anything.
It looks great. It’s big and distinctive, so it would be visible even with the camera zoomed out.
