Dark Souls II producer Takeshi Miyazoe exploded with laughter when he was asked by EDGE if Dark Souls will come to the Wii U. Miyazoe said it was more of a company decision not to bring the challenging series to the platform. Miyazoe concluded by saying that he thinks that the audience for Dark Souls is a lot different then that of Wii U.
Asked whether From Software and Namco ever considered a Wii U port, Miyazoe bluntly replies: “No.” When asked why, he explodes with laughter. “Wii U never came up, and we never doubted that (decision) either,” he says. “It was more of a company decision, so I wasn’t the one that decided this, but I think the audience for the Wii U is a lot different from the audience for Dark Souls.”

I thought it is very obvious that monster hunter and Dark souls aren’t that similar… Of course gamers likes challenges, but that doesn’t really have anything to do with the facts of sales and people’s tastes. People don’t really play WiiU for the blood and gore in their games… There’s ZombieU, but unless you want to play that, it’s not like you’re going to turn your WiiU for brutal gore with some blood and violence. Is that why people play monster hunter on their WiiU’s? I highly doubt it. MH is great cause of the “main” gameplay is like always battling a boss, while having such a peaceful atmosphere while gathering and crafting! While Dark Souls may be similar in its main gameplay, always fighting enemies and such, but it still is with another aftertaste, which isn’t really on games you often see on nintendo consoles. Nintendo games like to be for everyone, which I’m sure you know, and that’s also the games that’s mostly played on nintendo consoles, it’s the great way nintendo does it. It’s irrelevant being a nintendo fan liking dark souls, cause that’s possible, but that still doesn’t mean nintendo consoles are a fan of having (and having great sales with) those violent games on them :O

thing is its is just not hard. Hard implies that the game takes allot of effort to complete, just because you die alot due to traps or enemies take a ton of your health does not make it hard. It just made you unprepared. Honestly it seems rather scared to actually have the player struggle, so you probably die once or twice to a boss then figure out its tells and get past without losing much health. A hard game would have the player struggling to get though and keep them from progressing for longer than the few minutes that dark souls does. Plus the punishment for dieing is only losing souls or humanity… you know the thing that you can get without any trouble…

The bigger picture: Lets see, Rayman Legends wasn’t an exclusive, Splinter Cell doesn’t have the features as the other concepts. So far the only 3rd party developer who is giving Wii U a chance still even after back stabbing Nintendo is UBISOFT. At least Wii U version of Watch Dogs is not an 360 port.

The laughter was very unprofessional, very disappointing. It is clear that Namco Bandai has no knowledge of Wii U’s fanbase. Monster Hunter fans will surely appreciate DS2 ( I am one of them) and are one of the few types of gamers with the patience required for this kind of game.

You know its funny that weve got all these people here that think being an exception to a general rule makes them the majority when games like assasins creed, splintercell, ghosts and most wanted are lucky to sell 10,000 copies on wiiu.
Wiiu owners may very well be adults, but it’s fair to say that theyre the kind of adults that, by and large, dont support the larger AAA releases from third parties and, likely, cant be expected to support more niche titles like dark souls. Theres not one thing that anyone can point to that even hints at refuting that.
The laughing may have been uncalled for, but its pretty much established that the audience for this kind of game owns, or will own, another kind of system where games like this, and bayonetta 2 for that matter, wouldnt seem so out of place and unwelcome when compared to the more general offerings of more common releases.
Nintendo owners buy nintendo and very little else. Theres no point in getting mad at companies for knowing where their money is amd is not made.
The problem is that third party’s can’t complain about their games not selling if they don’t give wiiu owners same support same features and same advertisement.

The fact that some of you have played Dark Souls 8-10 times non-stop, doesn’t mean it’s automatically a wise decision to bring Dark Souls 2 to the WiiU.
The fact that they haven’t bring any of their games to Nintendo console means they can’t base their decision on “is not goin to sell”.
Agree, but it’s still pretty risky. I think the only way it could work is if the WiiU version gets some Zelda elements as bonuses, or even cooler, if you could play as Link.

Monster hunter is one of the best selling games on wii u (top 5) so they messed up not putting it on wii u. Even fan are asking.
Dark Souls is not even nearly as popular as Monster Hunter. There are always key franchises that will sell well on systems. Even if a game is identical to a popular franchise (Dark Souls and Monster Hunter are not) but has a different name, it will not do the same numbers, simply because of the name.

I’m a Nintendo fan. I got Dark Soul on PS3 and finished it with no problem, so I decided to buy demon Soul and I beated it even more easily!

And Dark Souls is a game that people who bought Zombi U just might go for.
Dark Souls sold around 770k copies on 360. 300k for PC, but I think digital sales would be higher on PC, as would pirated copies too.

I’m a souls fan and own a WiiU and would definitely buy the WiiU version if they made one. I think the problem is that people who are buying Dark Souls 2 will likely be buying it on other platforms anyway.

I’m stating my disdain for the Dark Souls producer, the saying is vote with your wallet, so i’ll play the game without paying part of his salary.

I will buy it on Steam when its dirt cheap, and I promise, it wont take long.
I’d rather pirate it (it’ll be my first pirated game ever) and not give them a penny.
Getting a few “hardcore” games could really bring the Wii U around and make it be considered by the masses. I mean it does play things at 1080 and 60fps which is more than the xbone, if they could pay to port some of the bigger multiplatform shooters to come to Wii U, you could get a whole new audience there.
I found the game way to easy and sold it soon after finishing it. Wasted my money on crap like that…I will skip DS2, easily. So regardless if he thinks the audience is not on the Wii, it will have its demographic audience and those who will buy it.
With all that said, the game was not as profitable the first time around and I doubt the game will make tons of $$. Worry less on graphics and concentrate on gameplay first and then bring in the graphics.
I also find it insulting that Takeshi Miyazoe laughed considering my nephew loves the Wii U more than the PS4 I got him, but at the same time can wreck you on COD:Ghosts in a split second and put most “gamers” out of commission …. so to say there are no audiences on the Wii U is ….well.. silly..

I have both Dark and Demon souls for the ps3.. I haven’t finished either.. my girlfriend is really more of a fan of both then I am.. Personally I just purchased a wiiu and Monster Hunter 3 and I must say.. I enjoy MH3 more then either of those souls game..and trust me.. I TRIED.. to enjoy those games.. and I will probably end up buying the Dark Souls 2 when it comes out… but really.. I think the series wouldn’t make much sense on a wiiu.. the souls series really doesn’t have a focused story..and while yes its challenging it holds little to no interest on anything Nintendo goes for..”Original game design,story, fun game play” and really.. I don’t know.. it just seems more to me like a door way to better games the soul series..and if you already own any of the Nintendo games you already know what you want rather then a expermental game like the soul series…

Just to add something else to this, but apparently namco thinks dark souls should go mobile…. http://www.destructoid.com/namco-bandai-seems-to-want-dark-souls-for-mobile-267833.phtml soooo the wii u audience with they’re monster hunter wonderful 101 and zombiu(clearly kids games and incredibly easy am I right) is not the audience for dark souls……but they think the people who play angry birds and candy crush are, of course thats just generalizing the whole mobile fanbase but i’m thinking of they’re way of seeing things not mine.(although mobilesare more suited to short and easy time waster games not insanely difficult rpgs). I love dark souls but this has me sorta scared I don’t want to see people spending 2 pound to have an extra life, or engaging in jolly co-operation with solaire for only 4 pounds a month.
Don’t know what Nintendo fans are worried about here.. so DS2 isn’t coming and it was funny to him.. I think its Funny we get Bayo 2, easily top 5 most memorable games from last get. As for the comment about blood and stuff on Nintendo.. Nintendo doesn’t mind it on the console now that there is a rating system, its just that they see it as a “gimmick” and are interested in making games that are more accessible, They have published violent games and Bayo 2 may be the most violent/adult yet. Bayo dint sell well on the PS/XBOX until it hit barging prices because it was not a good fit for the PS/Xbox crowd.
