Peter Molyneux Says Nintendo May Have Lost Its Way, But Don’t Count Them Out

Legendary video game designer Peter Molyneux has spoken to IGN about the current state of Nintendo. The Fable creator says that while Nintendo may have lost its way, they should never be counted out. Molyneux was asked by the publication at this week’s Game Developers Conference, as to what Nintendo can do to turn around the company’s fortunes. Here’s what he had to say.

“Well, I mean the problem with Nintendo is that they did a fantastic job of finding these millions of new players with Wii. And the Wii U, it kind of does that but also tries to bring in the existing gamers as well, so I think they may have lost their way a bit”.

“But they are super smart people. Never underestimate Nintendo. They are probably one hardware release away from something that utterly convinces us that they know exactly what the future of gaming should be. I wouldn’t ordain to give them advice”.

    1. These days hes a bit of a whore. he only works on shitty ios/facebook games atm. he’s known for fable/dungeon keeper etc.

      1. It is funny how people see him as a legendary video game creator. He work on 2 or 3 god games. But that’s it. He is dead to me.

      1. … and as you don’t seem to know him, he is considered as one of the best game developer of all time, besides giants like Miyamoto.
Pretty sure he knows his shit.

          1. Oh yes he is, and he even received medals and shit for his work.
He is one of the few developpers who basically invented modern video games.

  1. Peter Molyneux, my lord and savoir, it’s good to hear from you again. Maybe you could help work on the next Fable instead of flash games for phones and give me a reason to play video games again.

  2. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

We merely took the wrong path by 23 degrees west…

Calculations confirms that about 89.7% of High Command’s orders in development are to improve this tiny misstep and take us to victory…

  3. Nintendo is my Blood

Give that man a cookie, he seems to have his head screwed on straight and not in his ass like Patchy

  4. http://www.change.org/petitions/nintendo-adding-online-multiplayer-and-voice-chat-to-virtual-console-games

    Here’s why it’s important:

Have you ever imagined playing an old classic that you loved and wanted it to be online to show off your skills or even play with friends and family that live to far away to play the game with them. Imagine Super Mario World with online and voice chat, Mario kart with online and voice chat or even super smash bros! from N64 with online multiplayer and voice chat the list can go on and on this can be something that I know will be a hit! We together can make this happen if we show nintendo that we really want this! This would be amazing!

  5. This man is a whore. A FREAKIN DISGUSTING WHORE!!!! Who opens up his gap to the video game media community and allows them to plunge balls deep into the realm of “selling out”. I can smell it from here… A freakin disgusting whore!!!

  6. This guy made Fable? Those games suck… lolol! Also, he calls the Wii U unattractive and clunky.

He’s dead wrong about the Wii U’s appearance. I do agree that you can’t count Nintendo out just yet. They always have tricks up their sleeves… and they have many, many sleeves to pull tricks out of.

  7. Some of you are so quick to become offensive. Did you even understand what he said? He’s not putting Nintendo down in any way. He’s expressing his admiration for them as a company and admiring their resilience, their ability to learn from faults and be leaders in the industry. I agree with all that he said.

    1. I agreed with what he said, but I disagree with his interpretation on what the Wii U console is. I think the Wii U is a great machine (despite it being “weak”). I think it looks really nice!

  8. Peter you absolutely right well half right

U wrong.about the part where you say ” don’t count them out”

Wii already did when they released the original Wii

By they way you are a far better game designer then shigeru Miyamoto

Fable was always far better then Zelda in every aspect.

    1. @Aeolus, really? is that a fact? to everyone its an unbiased opinion, its a fact that miyamoto is a legend and the best game designer, its like saying that is a fact that aliens created us and not God

  9. So, am I to take form this blurb that Video Game Hardware should arouse me? “Sexy pieces of hardware.” I don’t really think of “sex” when I think of a games console, am I going about this all wrong, peter? Should I be looking for a sexbox that makes me ejaculate when I hold it in my hands? I’ve been playing games for all the wrong reasons! And apparently buying consoles for the wrong reasons as well…

  10. I like his answer,

It does not mindlessly glorify the direction nintendo is going, and at the same time he still values the potential nintendo has yet to incorperate.
