Capcom Halves Profit Forecast After Poor Sales In Mobile Market

Capcom has announced ahead of its annual financial results that it will revise its current profit projections by more than 50 per cent. Despite an increase in profits from their famed Monster Hunter franchise, the company has issued a statement to halve their profit forecast after underwhelming sales in both the mobile market and Monster Hunter Frontier G – the online game which is exclusive to Japan.

The Osaka-based company has reduced its consolidated net income profit forecast from its original projection of 6.8 billion yen (around $66 million) to 3.3 billion yen (around $32 million). However, Capcom’s net sales are due to increase from 97 billion yen to 101.5 billion yen, primarily due to strong sales from Monster Hunter 4.

Though sales have increased, the mobile market hasn’t quite hit the ground running and Capcom has suffered a significant “special loss” of 5 billion yen from setting aside “post business structural improvement expenses” to reorganise the product development framework and improve development processes. A small section of the offiical statement from Capcom can be found below.

“The forecast for consolidated sales has been increased mainly because of strong sales of ‘Monster Hunter 4’, the biggest title in Capcom’s home video games business, and the highly successful pachislo title ‘Monster Hunter Gekka Raimei’. On the other hand, the operating income and ordinary income forecasts have been lowered because of a decline in profitability. The primary reasons for this decline are below expectations of products in the highly profitable mobile contents and ‘Monster Hunter Frontier G’ online game. The net income forecast has been lowered for these reasons as well as to incorporate the special loss explained in the previous section. As a result, Capcom revises the forecast for consolidated business for the fiscal year ending March 2014.”

  1. Poor Capcom :(

Nothing works for them, not even on-disc DLC and mobile games… How about this? You could, y’know, stop treating your customers like fucking animals.

    1. Nintendo made them money with monster hunter 4 and then Capcom took those profits and made a mobile games studio. Nintendo made them recoup 3.2 million games sold of MH4 in 4 days when Capcom was aiming to sell 2.7 million in 7 months. Quit your ignorance and respect nintendo.

  2. Maybe they should make Monster Hunter 4 available in Europe and the state’s. That would boost their sales quite a bit.

    1. Capcom yes, there franchises no.

Nintendo owning Megaman, Viewtiful Joe, Monster Hunter, street Fighter, Resident Evil, Power Stone, Breath of Fire, Styder, Darkstalkers, Dead Rising, Bionic Comando, Zack & Wiki, Marvel Vs Capcom, Devil May Cry, Dragons Dogma, Final Fight, Phoenix Wright, Los Planet, Okami, Okamiden, and all the other Capcom IP’s would be awesome!

  3. I don’t feel sorry for them at all.
MH3 sold extremely well. MH4 has sold well, and although it should have been localized at launch, it’s still coming to the west.

They reorganized and started fucking around in mobile instead of rebooting RE and investing in a next-Gen MH.

You can’t stay in business this way Capcom.

  4. That’s what happens to a once elite of the elite 3rd party AAA companies

Capcom how the Once MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN
your ego allowed Yoshiki Okamoto,Shinji Mikami,Keiji Inafune and Hideki Kamiya and the rest of PG to leave

All the talented guys that made Capcom a great studio back in the days leave and this is the outcome. Lol

      1. That’s because that’s not the real Aelous, that’s actually theDragon posing as Aelous :) he hid it well for a while, but he’s been slipping up the last few post.

  5. Maybe they would still have their customer loyalty now if they actually made new Mega Man games. Oh well. Too late for them

  6. Well good for them, I think they deserve it, instead of investing back into the 3ds that made them a ton of money they went the other route and tried to make the competition aka the smartphone gain from what the 3ds profited , how about making more games for Nintendo since that’s where a lot of your fans are.

    1. Nintendo needs to strike and buy up Crapcom.. err i mean Capcom… and utilize the ip’s and their developers into pushing out games quicker. Might as well get in when profit is down and investors are disgruntled. Should allow capcom to be bought out on the cheap.

  7. Im gonna always say this but mobile gamin is nothin more than a fad. No one buys stuff from Capcom on their mobile because people who play with mobiles want their stuff Free! so yeah no wonder they dont do profit with shitty ass mobiles.

  8. Mobiles gaming gains, just like fanny packs is a fad. It shall fade and our handhelds will continue to reign supreme :).

  9. Another factual source to site why Mobile games aren’t profitable for big games companies. Those speculation articles about Mobile growing as an industry should stop and start looking at the facts.

  11. That’s what Capcom gets for blowing all its money it made from MH4 on a studio making Smart Phone crap. Get your ass back in gear Capcom. Abandon smartphone games, go back to Megaman (Legends 3) and you will be good to go.

  12. Damn. At least they’re still making fighting games. Ultra Street Fighter IV looks good at least; now if only they would bring Capcom vs. SNK 2 to modern consoles and make them and SNK some damn money.
