IGN has revealed that voice chat in Mario Kart 8 is restricted to friend only lobbies. This means that you won’t be able to voice chat with other players in an open online lobby. The publication also says that the game doesn’t provide you with message notifications.
“Chat is restricted to lobbies with friends only. There’s no option to invite friends into a game, and Mario Kart 8 also doesn’t provide message notifications. This is seriously disappointing because you have to use outside means to coordinate friends-only races.”

Nitntendo seem more preoccupied with screwing over their consumers for quick and easy cash-ins via DLC, NFC (which is worse than DLC), and other forms of microtransactions than they are about them actually benefiting . I wouldn’t be surprised if they stated charging for online play before they even added online to more of their titles.

In nearly every game I’ve played and saw with full voice chat people barely used it. They usually just say a few words and/or cough very loudly. It doesn’t really help the game, and it’s mostly only friends use it to it’s fullest anyway. At least that’s what I got out of it.

I’ll definitely point out the pros & cons of the voice chat when I can do the Club Nintendo survey once I download the game on the 30th. Maybe if enough people tell them using those surveys, Nintendo will actually patch up the voice chat to have a block system for the voice chat for those little bastards that talk shit to people they win against or lose to & parental controls to keep kids that have overprotective parents, or protective & vigilant parents that want to watch over their child when they talk to random strangers, from interacting with strangers.
Don’t forget. We didn’t just lose a useful version of voice chat. Allegedly, we can’t invite friends or families to race together. That is an epic fail.

Honestly, Nintendo will never save the Wii U with stupid shit like this. If you can’t program a new game in a series better than the previous, then give up. It’s going to die within a year or two. This won’t be the game to save it because people like to play online. After you beat the GP and unlock everything the fun is in playing online. People online are the ones who do not get it. As a logical adult, it actually makes sense to not have voice chat for all players to communicate, ESPECIALLY for Nintendo. They are a family friendly company, regardless of what everyone thinks they should be. They make games that are FUN and enjoyable to play for all ages, and adding the ability to communicate with random people on the internet is always scary. A lot of people do not have a filter online (hiding behind the screen) and a lot of little moronic kids get online and start cussing/blabbering about nothing.
