Super Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai has revealed in his weekly column in Famitsu that he is a great fan of PC gaming service Steam. Sakurai thinks it’s the best online shop available on video game platforms with some great sales and unique community based features. Sakurai then explained just how much he loves the service and the features and prices it offers consumers. It’s unlikely that he will make a game for the platform, but he’s certainly very impressed with it.
“It’s become mandatory that each platform has its own built-in [digital] shop. So among those, which online shop is superior and offers the most incentive to buy from it? I would answer, ‘Steam.'”
“When someone opens Steam, depending on their purchase and viewing history, suggested titles pop up. And there are sales almost every day with massive deals.” Sakurai observed. “The changes vary, making me check in frequently.”
“I write this because on varying levels, I have complaints with every other online shopping format.” Sakurai said in conclusion. “While there are limitations for each platform, perhaps those in development of shopping apps could take a page from Steam’s playbook?”

PSN seems to be the worse out of the three console online services. It seems to have gotten worse after they started charging too. Free games are cool, but if my credit card info was acquired by the wrong people, no amount of free games would ever make up for it.

Microsoft and Sony were just unlucky for being targeted, you can’t really give credit to Nintendo for not getting attacked at that time, they were lucky in the situation that it hit the competition; it’s not like Nintendo got away because they have super secure servers that prevented them from falling victim to those same attacks or anything like that.

DDOS attacks are not hacks on their own. Hacking *could* be used to employ DDOS attacks but aren’t required.
DDOS attacks are essentially just increases in traffic. So, let’s say you take the normal amount of visitors to MNN and multiply it by 100,000 at any given time, it ties up the network and makes it inoperable.
It’s really all about load balancing data packets. Someone could just send a lot of false data to a server (or servers) and overload them.

From what I’ve read, PSN goes down an awful lot. I never had that problem with xbox live, nintendo network, and certainly not steam. I think if you’re paying for the service then it is unacceptable for the network to constantly give problems. I didn’t play the PS3 online all that much, but I do remember that whole hacking incident that seemed to last forever for some gamers. I don’t own a PS4, but I see a lot of PS4 owners complaining about two things, no games and bad online service

That said owning both Xbox and PlayStation consoles, I haven’t seen much of a difference between their reliability.
But I wouldn’t doubt if Microsoft has the better network infrastructure due to the fact that it’s Microsoft – a company who specializes in that type of technology. At the same time, Xbox Live has been around for quite a bit longer and has been charging longer than the PSN. So it *should* be better.
There is a tech site that tracks the stats of networks including PSN and Xbox Live – for the life of me I can’t remember what the site is called though. Last time I checked it, which was in December, it showed that PSN actually has statistically fewer problems than Xbox Live.

There is no -exact- release date for Revelations 2 on Vita, all we know is that it will come out as a complete edition after all episodes are out on the other platforms. The last episode is set for the 19th/20th of March (depending on which region you’re from), so those are the earliest possible dates. :)

I did get to try the New 3DS XL at Gamestop the other day and the super stable 3D is pretty cool. And moving the camera with the c stick was nice. Other than that though, it didn’t really convince me. I still want the smaller one because it has a better picture due to the smaller screen and the faceplates and colorful buttons are too awesome. Screw Nintendo for not bringing over here. I want to upgrade but I seriously don’t think I should give Nintendo any of my money with the way they’ve been acting recently. I’m considering saving up my money and spending it on a different console cause Nintendo really has been ticking me off lately. I don’t mean I’m going to sell my Wii U and 3DS or anything though. The thing with Steam is that they have “variety”.
They have a wide selection for both the casual and the hardcore gamers. As well as a boatload of genres/content to keep EVERYONE’S plate full.
The Big 3 can take notes and learn a few things from Valve.
