MetalDave is at it again and this time he has apparently heard from his sources that the NX platform will be officially launching this year and that The Legend of Zelda will be a launch window game for 2016. The source of the information is apparently someone who works directly at Nintendo and that the Kyoto based company is attempting to release Zelda Wii U and Zelda NX at the same time period for Christmas 2016.

Also, I don’t think that it would be viable for the NX to be have support for 4K resolution. I honestly feel like it would just unnecessarily raise the cost of the system and we would get into the same pit as the Wii U was stuck in. What Nintendo game needs 4K anyway? 3rd parties would be the only ones to use it, which they typically jump ship after poor sales of their games (pretty much always happens at this point).

I think it’ll be a good move by Nin if they dual launch Zelda on NX and WiiU. I know it seems like a knife in the fans’ backs who will have bought the WiiU version, but there maybe relief for people who bought it.
I think that (if they dual launch Zelda) there will be some sort of additional content or discount on the NX version only for people that already bought the WiiU version… I mean think about it… With the WiiU’s Life cycle coming to an end plus the new account system and the new ClubNin rising, it is likely that the additional content/discounts will utilize those 2 new motions.

Reggie: “If you bought the WiiU version of Zelda, we are excited to announce that you are eligible to receive a special discount on the upcoming NX version. If it were launched simultaneously, why would anybody double-dip? Whether NX is a home console or a handheld (even both), I doubt the port will be drastically different than the original. Of course, I know little about NX’s unique traits, so I could be wrong.
Yet, when Wii launched, I bought TP for Wii but had zero interest in TP for GCN. It had little to do w/ TP Wii’s motion controls & upgraded graphics. I simply got the Wii port because it was time for me to move on to the next Nintendo console (Wii), which showed it had promise, both w/ its launch line-up & announced future-releases, & w/ its new way to play (which did little to enhance TP as a whole [mainly fishing & archery]).
Even if Zelda U were released a month or 2 before NX’s port, I doubt enough gamers would be that impatient. More like Nintendo would be adding extras into the NX port to woo consumers away from Wii U, because again, double-dipping seems like a waste of time & $$. I hope consumers are smarter than that. Gamers should want Nintendo–or any company–to earn their profits in a more substantive way. If consumers want both versions, well, its their time & $$ doubled for basically 1 game, but it really should be 1 or the other. Let’s make Nintendo & the industry great again, instead of enabling their exploitation of double-dippers, protracted DLC strategy, internal multiplatting, glut of cutscenes, & HD remasters of last gen games (especially if its on a backwards compatible machine).
Personally, as a Wii U owner, I’ll stick w/ Zelda U on Wii U. Unless NX offers the type of games I like @ launch, I’ll likely refrain from buying the NX until its library justifies its purchase. Very doubtful considering the way Wii U was mishandled; Nintendo & 3rd parties’ lack of enthusiasm for genres, franchises, & console-gaming; & the collapse of the Japanese market (seems Platinum & ATLUS are the last major players).
But I have a suspicion that NX will likely be saturated w/ Wii U ports for a long time, w/ very little new 1st-party in-between, & likely a few 3rd-party multiplats catering to the PS-X-PC subculture & casuals.
Too early to tell for sure, but this certainly ain’t the good ol’ days, when games were games & gamers were players. When quality meant something, instead of shrugging crap off w/ patches & going OCD for scant few genres & individual titles. When optimization, exclusives, & platform brands really meant something. When…etc., etc.
But if NX does look promising @ launch, I’ll skip Zelda U & buy the NX port instead. Hopefully their MSRPs will be the same for both versions. If the NX port is more, it’d better include a fair amount of content &/or a unique experience, otherwise I’ll stick w/ Zelda U on Wii U even if by some miracle I buy NX @ launch.

I agree with some of your points but as anything that has to do with Zelda or NX at the moment, have a lot of “IF”s associating it self to our predictions. One simple debunk of any portion in ones predictions which surrounds “IF”, can be devastating or Utopian.
Sure gaming has changed but there are too many forks in the path for something we think is going to turn out completely negative.
I was hoping that it would be a WiiU exclusive, since every other Nintendo console has had their very own Zelda game. It would be really cool if they implemented cross buy, or something. For example, if you bought the WiiU version, you get a digital code for the NX version. It would probably help some WiiU owners embrace the NX version, since they wouldn’t need to double-dip, and it may actually influence some to buy the NX earlier than they planned to. Especially if the save files could be passed over, so we wouldn’t have to start all over again, unless we wanted to.

I don’t get the outrage. If you want to play the game on Wii U, it’s still there, that much has been confirmed. Nobody’s cheating you out of playing this game on Wii U, and the game is not going to be any worse for being on the NX. On the contrary, the game will probably be better on Wii U due to it being designed to take advantage of that platform. I’m not planning on getting the NX day 1, and a game I can already play on the platform I already own is not going to change that.

It is not the amount of consoles Nintendo care about. It is the profit made from their consoles. They can sell 100 million consoles but if they losing money on them then they failing. Well… “Zelda U” comes exclusively to the Wii U and “Zelda NX” exclusively to the NX, problem solved, haha. I don’t care either way.
I would like some proof before I believe anything. Until then… bullshit!!! Devkits haven’t even been out for long, and launching a new console with ZERO 3rd party support will make the NX stillborn. Trust me… the NX will follow Nintendo’s usual launch tradition… unveil at E3 and launch 1 1/2 years later.
Dev kits have been out long enough to port games that are almost or already finished. Games like Dark Souls 3, Elder Scrolls 6, Doom, FF 7 remake, FF 15, etc.etc… I agree dev kits have not been out long enough to develop games from the ground up, but let’s face it, most 3rd party games are just going to be ports of the PS4 version. And they have had more than enough time to port.
Launching a new console with old ports will certainly not be a viable option. The NX should launch with new content from leading 3rd party studios, otherwise it’s going to fail even worse than WiiU… which in my book isn’t a real failure. :)

Ports take time too. It is not a simple copy and paste the code. There is more work involve and involves a much smaller development team.
Yes, correct… ports also take time, but the NX should not launch with ports of age old games. The NX needs to shake things up in the industry and have a stellar launch lineup of new 1st and 3rd party games.
Even if it is a new third party game if NX is not the lead platform then the game would be a port.

How would you consider Elder Scrolls 6 an “old port”? Or Dark Souls 3? Doom?Or FF15? The NX is not a system that’s launching two years from now. It’s very possible the NX will launch THIS year. And those games above will be the most popular games of 2016. Your wrong, the NX absolutely NEEDS every one of those games I listed if it releases in 2016. Your idea of the NX only having games that are built from the ground up is implausible. Plus, like someone already said, the leading console gets the main version, everything else would be a port.
Ports of the PS4 version? That itself is a port of the PC build lol. It would get PC ports.

Sad to see it. Those bad console ports need to stop. Most AAA games nowadays are doing pretty good on the PC, but there still seem to be a few that come out every now and then that get all botched up. It’s 2016 now. That’s just unacceptable. This generation developers look more and more concerned about pushing out DLC and making a quick buck rather than ensuring they have a quality game that runs stable.

If Wii U gets the Zelda and the NX’s first iteration is a handheld powerful enough to play Zelda U in full at the same quality then Nintendo will have made a giant leap forward
It sounds like the US will be getting the home console NX first though because of how well the 3DS is still doing over here. It sounds like japan might get the handheld first or maybe just both handheld and console at the same time.
certainly possible… Handheld is certainly bigger in Japan than elsewhere, but it all depends on the capability of the system. IF the NX handheld can compete with tablet time for younger games/kids whatever you want to call them, then it can still make sense in America, but like you said, Japan first, gauge interest elsewhere…. And the reverse with the home console. Unfortunately, I feel like home console won’t be here till mid-holiday 2017 with the hand held first. Either this whole thing about NX launching this year needs to die or NX needs to have Xbox 360 kind of success. If what happened with the 360 in the early days happens with the NX (but in a more Nintendo way), that’s the only way launching in 2016 would not be too soon for the system and for Nintendo.

I heard a rumor that Zelda U will be a sequel to twilight princess and Zelda NX will be a sequel to Majora’s Mask. They’ve been working simultaneously on both games this whole time and both will release within a short timeframe of each other around the holiday of 2016. Keep in mind this is just a rumor, but what I can say 100% for a fact is that I just made this up, because rumors have to start somewhere right?

At this point, it would be pretty foolish from Nintendo to not pull a Twilight Princess with Zelda U and release it for WiiU and NX. This would also mean, that the NX might get a second Zelda game as well during its lifetime (apart from other releases like Skyward Sword HD or something).
I’ve been saying this for months now. But no, some of you dopes still think Zelda will be Wii U exclusive.
Nintendo could actually also just release it for the WiiU and sell it 2 years later again for the NX with updated graphics. But at this point, if a Zelda game is scheduled so late in a lifecycle of a console that sold so bad, it’s pretty obvious they’re gonna use it as an incentive to buy the NX as well.
