Here’s another vague tidbit regarding the hardware capabilities of Nintendo Switch. Although it can’t share specifications of the upcoming console just yet, Image & Form says Nintendo isn’t “skimping on power.” The SteamWorld Heist developer made this comment on Twitter, responding to a question asking how well Switch runs when it’s being used as a hand-held device.
Can't comment on specs, I'm afraid. But Nintendo are definitely not skimping on power!
— SteamWorld Games (@SteamWorldGames) November 1, 2016

I love/hate all these comments that mean so little. Can’t blame them though. Gotta respect the NDA.
Fo’ sho’
In all fairness, this means more than little coming from a developer that has historically supported Nintendo and not Emily freakin’ Rogers.
what if Emily rogers is secretly myiamoto
Right! And whenever he posts on twitter, he wears a blond ponytail wig and a dress.
its 2016, you cant judge
hmmm………………….
better be more than 4 gb ram…
8 gb would make it good, 12 gb would be perfect if they want to incorporate a good OS.
But what about 16? Or 18? Even 22!
How about a pitabyte of ram?
How about a GeopByte of ram?
sarcasm?
yodabyte
Or 24 or 32 omg
Just for reference, the Vita (which almost everyone will admit is a very powerful handheld) has only 640MB ram total. The only reason why the Switch would need more than 4GB would be to have several applications running at one time or if it had a very bloated OS. Since Nvidia is involved on the OS end of things, I don’t see the OS being a problem… I’m guessing 500MB, maybe 1GB tops, but hopefully much closer to 500MB.
Now, my gaming PC has a total of 30GB (24 system, 6 video), so I could argue using the same logic that people here who are complaining about the Switch having 4GB that the PS4 Pro should have had more than 9GB ram. Also, those of you PS4/Xbox One owners who think that power means more than anything else are stupid and/or hypocrites as you shouldn’t even be playing on a toy console if power really means that much to you.
Yeah i agree with you, however is important in both balance and graphical performance.
As always we are going to trust Nintendo on this.
With the WiiU i was very positively surprised by Mario 3d World’s graphics.
So i just know it isn’t gonna be an issue.
That’s why you only hear the ps4 and xbox one hypocrites keep complaining
Oh my God Jananry can’t come soon enough
*January
Snap, crackle, pop rocks.
Well, I’m just gonna let those sleeping dogs lie.
I’m just expecting it to have as much power as it can in a portable form factor so that it could still be affordable. Can’t power become way more expensive when you try to make it smaller and smaller?
Also remember that this is the first hybrid system of its kind to actually be made by a major gaming company. The NVIDIA Sheild as I understand was just something you could stream PC games to and other similar tablet devices simply played Android games.
i feel like then nintendo switch will be xbox one power level for the actual to go part but ps4 pro level with the dock and maybe they will release better docks in the future so it could make it look like the scropio
PS4 Pro level? That’s certainly wishful thinking. But extremely unlikely. If that’s the case though, Switch probably ain’t gonna be cheap.
with the dock it could seem likely
Your right. Pro Level, i’m sorry but the Switch would not; Nintendo will never do that, they don’t listen the consumer in that graphic sense. This time will be on par on graphics because it’s common sense, never surpass the xone/ps4, neither be a little update to WiiU, just close enough at least with this gen consoles; that’s the goal to Nintendo, i guess. Switch will be affordable with good graphics and will be able to handle ports.
The only time when they went to the graphics route and was able to be in 2nd place, was with Gamecube.
Let’s just hope the Switch be what WiiU wanted to be.
400-500 euro is affordable people spend more on phones and tablets
also think abot “it wont be skimping on power, being ps4 pro level will make that so
I wouldn’t go that far though. PS4 Pro is far fetched. But I also consider that its beefy for a tablet and its got vents, which means its got a good cooling system. That means its got some good silicon packed in. I think in the end, Ninty may surprise us.
its a HYBRID NEXT GEN GEN 9 SYSEM PS4 PRO IS A 4 GEN OLD CONCEPT WITH SLIGHTLY MORE POWER
SEGA 32X STATION 4
Shut the fuck up you damn drug addict!!!!!!
It’s all about meth with you. A damn shame.. Really a damn shame.
Maybe we can just put that dog to sleep now and save it the hassle.
your profile picture is disgusting
bowler AA quit being such a fag no one wants to sleep with you
I’m sorry but how exactly do you expect them to fit PS4 Pro levels of power in such a small form factor?
Nintendo has said that they arent going to sell the console at a lost, so it would have to be at least $400 if thats the case, not to mention that fitting that much power in a tablet like console would drive it up even higher in price. They have also said that the console would be price fairly. Lets say the Switch cost $450-$500, do you really think the fans would let Ninty get away with that? It would be hell for them.
Oh, and I&F havent really done any graphic intense games, their pretty but they arent really demanding so I dont know if I trust them when it comes to talking about power.
Oh, and the damn batteries they would need for thst damn thing, oh lord jeebus that would be hell.
No way Nintendo sells it for over $300. People expecting a powerhouse that’s exactly on par with PS4 & XB1 are going to be disappointed.
Exactly, it cant be anymore than $300. That being said, no matter what Nintendo says, im looking at the swith as a portable console. Its exactly what Sony was selling to us with the Vita, but if its anywhere near as strong as the wii U with 720p resolution, im on board.
A handheld with the graphics of Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D world And actual support from a big tripple A developer (Nintendo) fuck Yes!
If anything it sounds like it’s more powerful than the Wii U. Add in the fact that the feature of playing anywhere is built into one system rather than needing a Vita and a PS4 and they’re already off to a better start. Then of course all Nintendo games in one place.
Hell, thats just perfect then. I completely agree. Even if 3rd parties leave Ninty again, well get some huge Nintendo 1st party games so im all for it. I wont be a day one owner, but ill certainly get it in 2017.
It’s sounding like it’s going to be approximately 3x as powerful and a Wii U.
I havent really looked up the rumor specs, but if this is the case, ill be happy.
I have a feeling that the dock won’t boost power. I’m no tech guy, but it seems suddenly removing computer bits from the Switch, in the process of taking it out of the dock, would be a total system shock. Instant transitions from docked to mobile wouldn’t be possible. But like I said I’m not the least bit tech savvy.
Or just below Xbox One Power for the Tablet, and just above Xbox One for when docked.
The current Switch will not be PS4/PS4 Pro level in anyway, though it shouldn’t be much behind Xbox One level. Remember that this is a tablet device that you can take with you, while it will not be as powerful, try doing that with an Xbox One/PS4!
The only things that the dock provides are power, USB and HDMI ports. It’s possible that the Switch being docked and not running off battery power may operate faster to the point to where it can do a game in 1080p and then scale down the same game to 720p on battery power is possible, but anyone who thinks that the docks “adds” processing power is sadly mistaken.
Now, anyone who bitches that the Switch isn’t as powerful as a PS4 Pro is a moron. The PS4 Pro is just an under powered pc in a plastic case. You want power, stop playing with toys and get a good gaming pc.
External GPUs (sometimes in the form of docks) already exist. I’m not sure you’d be able to pull the tablet off in the middle of a game and disconnect it from the extra GPU without crashing your game, but it could be possible if you have to “eject” it through the software first.
Honestly extra graphics power in the dock just makes sense. it’s plugged into the wall, so it doesn’t matter how much power it’s using, and you need a good amount of graphics processing for large screens. Small screens, you don’t need that much graphics power and you want to use less so it doesn’t drain the battery. I feel like something the size of the Switch’s screen using the type of GPU that powers a modern home console would be disastrous in terms of battery life. I think they might HAVE to do extra GPU in the dock to pull off this concept.
My thoughts on the switch…
4gb Ram with 32mb eDRAM on MCM
Quad Core cpu with NVIDIA pascal chipset
32-64gb flash memory
4hrs battery life. It could match an Xbox1/PS4 with those specs. But not the PS4 Pro.
its a hybrid get over your self LOLps4 32x fail system
If I could only put my grip around that furry white neck. I would suffocate the life out of that pathetic animal.
I feel the need to end your pets life. Stupid ass dog
But you wouldn’t understand you meth addict..
That was uncalled for.
This must be that same anon the other day that threatened his dog. Threaten the idiot human all ya want but leave the poor, innocent dog out of this. I guess he’s not man enough to attack the human so he goes after the weaker prey, the dog, instead.
||Not nearly as painful and overlong as my giant cybernetic leg on your neck human…||
Are you even able to form a complete and coherent sentence?
Metroid Bane:
What we know is that it will use unreal engine 4 but It’s unlikely that it have the graphics as PS4 Pro when used as a home console. The consoles of Nintendo are the most accesible in terms of money so it may cost 350 to 400 most likely.
Metroid Bane:
I forgot to type the other part. Asuming that it will cost 350 to 400 it certaily that will have graphics close to PS4 and XBox One but I don’t think it will surpass that. The important thing is that a lot of 3rd Parties are supporting this console (Nintendo Switch) so most probably will sell better than the Wii U.
week old news !!!!!!!!!!!!
Tobiyyah’s voice: What would make this Switch sell nice regardless of price
Would be if the handheld version could actually download apps and have an OS competitive to Galaxies and Ipads.
If the Switch could actually be used as a real tablet in the handheld department.
We dont even know what the OS looks like.
It needs to have Wifi able, download music. Ebooks. Amazon apps.
If the Switch can do that, then it will sell.
Also Showtime apps. HBO go.
Thats what I was thinking too. The Switch needs to be able to do everything your average tablet can do. So it’s not just a gamepad but an actual device that can download movies and stream youtube. What would really blow people’s mind is if Apple and Nintendo were partnered to the point they allowed Itunes on it. Doubt it, but it would be nice.
Tobiyyah’s voice : yes Itunes and Windows media player. ANd allow us to be able to play smash brothers with our own music downloaded to the system. They do this then then the console is worth as much or more valuable than an Ipod and PS4 pro. It would sell like crazy if it could do this.
Guys, don’t worry, my aunt’s brother works for SEGA, and he’s assured me that the Switch has 2 terraflops of graphics RAM. When docked, that number goes up to 5. It should be able to run Sonic ’16 at a bit rate of 400 bits per second.
1st: Graphics RAM speed, or amount is not measured in TFLOPS.
2nd: 5 TFLOPS of G-RAM when docked?
3rd: Sorry, but 400 bits per second is an abysmal data transfer rate.
4th: Are you trolling? How is SEGA even relevant anymore?
Not so much a troll as trying to be very obvious that I was joking.
Love it when jokes go over people’s heads on the internet.
The sad thing is I believed you lol
But will it have blast processing
Hasn’t Nintendo said Breath of the Wild will look even better on Switch than it will on Wii U (though the Wii U version still looks very beautiful already)? I think that means the Switch will definitely beat Wii U in the power category though that’s kind of expected.
No. They haven’t said the Switch version will “look better”. But it will have features unique to the Switch ver. You wont have a extra screen, so maybe there’s in game options better suited for a one screen experience. It’s not on a CD, so loading times might be quicker. Figure it out yourself. As for the FR, you’ll see when it releases.
The key word here is “Handheld”. Of course for a handheld device it’s going to be powerful, but as a console? Nope. It’ll look like a toy in comparison to the PS4/Xbox One.
Basically it’s a true handheld Wii U, but as a console, when docked, it’s unclear. But probably XB1 or a little lower more possibly. But that will be the system you can play Zelda, Mario ect on so just ask yourself if you wanna play those games. They are not going multiplat, yet. lol
Or you know, enjoy your runners, that’s all mobiles are gonna get for now.
Yea but is it a handheld or an actual tablet? Nintendo hasn’t told us about all the functions of this thing. If you can get on iTunes, or stream Twitch and YouTube videos I don’t even think graphical power would be an issue. If it’s JUST a handheld gaming device, which I doubt, then it needs to be powerful. The actual console part of the Switch will no doubt be at least as powerful as an Xbox One, maybe PS4.
It’s a portable console. If I had to guess, it’s gonna do what a console does. Except maybe a few touchscreen features. But it isn’t going to function exactly like a tablet. The Switch isn’t cut out to fully replace neither a handheld or tablet.
Yea I tend to agree with you here. One can hope but it probably is just a handheld device without streaming or itunes…
If it had all the capabilities of an Ipad it would be VERY expensive…
And another thing. Nintendo will not risk having a console that can’t run current gen software. No way in hell they would do that, not after the Wii U. The Switch will be AT LEAST as powerful as an Xbox One for this reason.
Be wary, Nintendo is stubborn. You’re talking about the company that made a last-gen powered console TWICE. Not only that but look at the size of the PS4 and Xbox One, and then look at the size of that tablet. Nintendo said the tablet is the main console. Unless Nintendo gained technology 10 years from the future, there is no way you can fit a powerful components into something that small AND keep it reasonably priced.
We’ll see, I don’t personally think the Xbox One and PS4 is that advanced. It’s older tech thats outdated and outpowered by even the most average gaming PC. Nintendo is stubborn, I’ll give you that, but I honestly can’t believe they are willing to go another console generation without having the power to run third party software. That’s pratically suicide and would make the Switch Dead on Arrival. Until I hear otherwise i’m assuming it’s at least as powerful as the outdated and graphically underpowered Xbox One.
And just wanted to add. You seem to think the PS4 and Xbox one is some sort of advanced hardware thats not capable of fitting in the Switch, but I assure you it is. Here’s what Sony themselves had to say about the PS4 Pro..
” With the PS4 Pro your not getting a next gen console, but rather the best possible version of a three year old console.”
He’s basically admitting the PS4 is outdated tech. I mean your talking about hardware that was developed 5-7 years ago… Techknowledgy move fast, you could probably fit the PS4 tech inside a smart phone now.
I don’t share your optimism, but it sounds good!
It’s not really optimism, just sound reasoning. I can’t believe Nintendo would make another console that would be under powered to the point that it couldn’t run third party software. Like I said above that would basically kill the system right out of the gate. Sure Nintendo fans would buy it, but nobody else would, not if it couldn’t run FFVX or the FFVII remake. And to run those games it needs to be at least on par with the Xbox One. Which surely it is. Optimism would be me hoping it’s on par with the PS4 Pro or Scorpio… lol Thats optimism.. not likely either.
You sure he’s the one doing meth?
So now we determine to buy the Switch depending on what makes it tick?
Yet if it was powerful enough either way sales for Nintendo would still be tough.
I wonder why Sonynsales dont have this issue. They can come out with a powerful console and sales would make Nintendo buy more tissue.
When are we going to get new rumours of future Nintendo games? IM begining to get tired of these power assumptions and rather lame.
Pingback: Nintendo Switch supererà di gran lunga i suoi predecessori a detta di Image & Form – Real Game Tribu – Official Web Site
This is news worth as much as a used toilet paper – they give a little meaning or none.
The power is more than just GPU – it is the total of the entire architecture. How things are releated to each other.
A computer architecture is completely different than a console architecture. A console is more or less made for gaming and streaming while a computer is made for multitasking and run complex software.
It is more interesting to see the full specifications. I would (as it goes for performance) love to see something close to PS 4, but Nintendo are far behind of that.
If you can’t tell us anything, how about you guys not say anything at all!? Besides, you guys make small games that aren’t graphically demanding or too heavily power demanding. So why should I believe your take on the Switch’s power?
