A couple days ago, director Tatsuya Kando promised that Square Enix is working on new developments for The World Ends With You but didn’t specify what they are. Based on an image that was first seen toward the end of the credits of the iOS version of the game, a sequel to The World Ends With You is supposedly confirmed to be in development. Which platform(s) do you think the sequel will be for?
Director Tatsuya Kando apologizes to those who are waiting for new developments for The World Ends With You, and hopes they can wait because Square Enix is working on a variety of other things related to the game. In the meantime, Kando tells fans of the title to play The World Ends With You Solo Remix for iOS because, he claims, it won’t feel like a port of the original version for Nintendo DS.
“For those who were waiting for new developments for TWEWY, sorry to have kept you waiting. Solo Remix is a game with such a high level of completion that you won’t feel that it’s a port. If you play it and post Tweets to Twitter, the world will expand even further. We’re working on a variety of other things, but first please enjoy Solo Remix.”
Brian Gray, the lead translator on The World Ends With You, Kingdom Hearts, and Monster Hunter has Tweeted that the Square Enix countdown surprise for The World Ends With You may be more than just an iOS port of the game. Gray had the following to say to his Twitter fans.
“Before everyone decides the #twewy countdown is over, they might want to wait for the countdown to be over. #moredripthanleak”
The World Ends With You’s teaser site is still counting down prior to a reveal, but Square Enix may have accidentally spoiled its own surprise. A new The World Ends With You soundtrack is listed on the publisher’s online store, which mentions that a version of the game will launch for iOS devices later this year. It looks like The World Ends With You will no longer be exclusive to Nintendo’s dual-screen handheld, the Nintendo DS.
Square Enix’s The World Ends With You may be getting a sequel. The publisher is teasing a new game by featuring character designs from The World Ends With You on its website. The Japanese phrase “Subaseka” is in the URL, which hints that the teased game will be related to The World Ends With You. Because the original game is exclusive to Nintendo DS, perhaps a sequel will be coming to Nintendo 3DS.
Tetsuya Nomura has revealed to Nintendo Dream that there’s a chance that Square Enix may produce another The World Ends With You game. Nomura told the publication that the development team decided to do voice casting for the Raimu character in Kingdom Hearts 3D “out of consideration of the future of The World Ends With You series.” Nomura further hinted “Regarding The World Ends With You, I can’t say anything at present… (laughs). But there probably is something.”
The latest issue of Japanese magazine V-Jump has revealed that both Joshua and Beat from The World Ends With You will be appearing in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance for the Nintendo 3DS. Joshua is a sly teenager while Beat was once a reaper who wanted to bring his younger sister back to life. However, he does have one more partner in the game called Shiki who will be probably be revealed at a later date.
Tetsuya Nomura, one of the key creative forces behind The World Ends With You, has hinted to Famitsu that they’re developing a possible sequel to the critically acclaimed game. We already know the main character will be appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3D so whether or not we will see more cameo appearances, or a brand new game, is currently unknown.
