Inevitably Sony America has announced that it’s to drop the RRP of its PlayStation Portable Base Pack in light of the Ds’es incredible dominance of the hand-held gaming market.

The PSP which previously retailed for $199.99 has had its price slashed by 30% and will now cost consumers $169.99. Declining sales and the forthcoming release of Pokemon; Diamond and Pearl are both thought to have played a major factor in Sony’s decision.

  2. Hmmm.. I wonder if this will even help with the PSP sales. I think in order to be successful, they may need to do a complete redesign of the hardware. What is your opinion, Sickr?

  3. I don’t think a re-design is in order primarily because the hardware at present in more than satisfactory. What the PSP needs more than anything is must have games – something which it significantly lacks.
