Nintendo Wii: EA Struggling With Multi-Platform Titles On Wii

EA have admitted that they’re struggling with profitability on multi-platform ports for the Nintendo Wii.

The company cites the most recent edition of the Madden franchise as a shining example of this, with sales figures far from meeting EA’s initial expectations.

“To be honest, the Wii platform has a been a little weaker than we had certainly anticipated and there’s no lack of frustration to be doing that at precisely the time where we have the strongest third party share. We’re reaching out to Nintendo to find ways to partner to push third-party software harder. I frankly think they [Nintendo] need more beats in the year than what they get out of a first party slate to be able to have the Wii software platform perform as well as they would like.”

“Wii is where we’re missing it, I really do think that the opportunity exists to find different ways to partner with the first party [Nintendo] in this case to help establish in the minds of the consumer legitimacy of some of these other brands when they’re going out multi-platform because very, very few multi-platform titles are succeeding on the Wii so far.”

    1. because the wii isn’t powerful enough. don’t get me wrong i have a wii and play it often, but come on, you can’t deny the facts

  1. Head in the sand, excuse laden rubbish

Stop making rubbish Wii conversions, get them out at the right time and price them appropriately, then you will get some joy

  2. The whole idea of porting has never been one I was in favour of unless they are optimised for the recieving console.
A lot of console gamers have at least 2 consoles, if you do a straight port to the wii and then strip it of features people will buy the better one but if you redesign the graphics and controls to ones that appeal to wii users and make them actually want to buy that version then maybe they will.
Also agreed with the top comment saying that wii needs more 3rd party exclusives. I’m sick of playing ps2 ports on my wii (which is 4x the processing power of the former) inlcluding EAs Rock Band (though RB doesn’t need to rely on graphics DLC would have been nice)

    ok rant over lol

  3. The Wii is the top selling video game system right now and EA is having trouble selling their products? Could it be that there is nothing ground breaking about their software right now. **ding ding** I think so!

  4. That’s what EA gets for recycling the same crap over and over. And now they blame Nintendo? Why not make something a little more creative for a change?
