Nintendo Wii: Wii HD Isn’t The Way Forward Says Nintendo

Whilst a plethora of highly anticipated franchises are making their way onto both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Nintendo are trying relentlessly to persuade certain publishers to provide Wii owners with similar offerings.

“I think for those games (i.e Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed etc), typically decisions are being made two years prior,” Fils-Aime says. “And so the decisions two years ago were that those types of games would not be effective on the platform. But we’ve shown that that’s just not the case. High-quality, effectively marketed against our installed base will sell, period — end of story.”

“Upgrading to HD is not the way we at Nintendo do things. The way we at Nintendo do things is, you know, when we will move to a new generation, it’s because there are some fundamental things the [current] console cannot do,what that says is that simply the addition of HD capability will not be the next step for us. There will be more to it. There will be additional capability. There will be additional elements, and, given that, it is far into the future.”

  1. yeah… smart saying from Reggie…
the problem is: the world is going from 480p to 1080p.
Nintendo cannot accept it is worth to keep on with 480p. it is somewhat like a pact of mediocrity!
Nintendo gambled image quality for the wiimote – so far seems like a fair trade and that is what we expected to hear from nintendo itself. But it is required that they acknowledge the future – people soon won’t care for 480p resolution…
please guys, after SNES, people didn’t care anymore about red and black 3d screens, if you know what i mean… hope nintendo doesn’t go virtual boy again….

    1. they did very well with earthbound thank you reggie you are the smartest person in this world. you are smarter then us. they chould get thousands of dollors bring earthbound to vc but no o well. i wish i had the iQ of nintendo.

  2. Told ya. It’s a shame… I really think Nintendo shot themselves in the foot with the Wii… What is the next console going to be? Is it gunna be state of the art next gen console? or stick to family fun? Either way they loose a half a percentage of their audience.

  3. The only win I can see Nintendo making out of this stubbornness is if they were to just skip the whole PS3 generation consoles, Save all the money that there getting from us for making us play the Wii, Release the Sequel to the Wii which should be a step ahead of the PlayStation 4 like the Nintendo 64 was a step ahead of the PlayStation 1.

In lamest terms the Next Nintendo console should have at least 32 bits or whatever over its competitors like the N64 had over the PS1. Its only fair since they released the same generating console twice when everyone else stepped it up. If I buy another console from Nintendo it better look like Day and Night compared to its competitors because thats what the Wii looks like to PS3 right now. Back in the day it was the opposite. Why cant it be that way right now? With the money they are making its more then possible to accomplish the best game play graphics on the market.

I hope this is there secret plan.

  4. If Nintendo just released a Wii with HD graphics it would not sell well.
Those with a Wii, do not need a slightly different one, nor do people without a Wii want one if they haven’t got one by now.

They should instead concentrate on getting a lot of good games out for the console, get 3rd Party developers to make real games for the console and while they do that, start work on the next gen console.
