Nintendo Wii: Reggie Claims No One With A Wii Would Buy PlayStation Move

Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime has spoken some choice words about PlayStation Move thus far.

This time Reggie goes one step further and claims that consumers will be content enough with their Nintendo Wii’s and therefore won’t bother dropping $400 on a PlayStation 3 with the PlayStation Move accessory.

“So I’m a consumer and I’m having a great experience with my Wii. And we know that’s the case – we look at the software that’s being purchased. Consumers love the Wii. What’s going to motivate them to spend minimally $300 for a new [PS3] system, plus minimally $100 for the Move motion bundle?

“So [as a consumer] now I’m into this for $400 and I still have to spend money on software. What’s going to motivate me to do that?”

  1. Except that I did buy the PS3 quite some time ago and I do own a Wii. Is Nintendo really that clueless about the future of gaming?

    1. He means that you would not buy the Playstation 3 just because of the new motion sensitive device, if you owned a Wii already.

  2. Does anybody else think that the Wii isn’t popular because of the motion control, but because it’s the cheapest console, and you HAVE to have it to play certain games (Zelda)?

    1. It’s not the cheapest console. Xbox 360 Arcade is the same price and has, in my opinion, a better selection of games. Wii is a family console, not something for a serious gamer. Xbox also has games made exclusively for the console.

      1. Fuck you and you’re false statements about Wii not being for serious gamers. Nintendo is where it all started; it is what makes you think that Xbox and PS3 is for serious gamers. Without Nintendo, without SNES, without N64 and GC, you wouldn’t be shit, so stop the bullcrap and be quiet please.

        1. That was a personal opinion. No need for the language, kiddo. I’m assuming you’re still a kid from your comment. Learn to use “you’re” and “your.” Maybe you shouldn’t be playing video games and focusing more on school..just a thought.

  3. I already own a PS3, but let me clarify. I was not willing to buy a new one for $300, so I decided I would just get a used one this summer at GameXChange or something, but I ended up getting one for Christmas, which is fine with me. :D

Anyway, I will almost certainly NOT get a Move. It’s just a Wii-Mote clone IMO.

  4. Most of you fail. He is not talking about YOU or a specific person. He is talking about the consumers in general and he is right.

  5. “Why spend $300 dollars on the console and another $100 on the Move when I could get a Wii that’s only $200 and comes with a free game.” That’s what the average consumer would think if they had neither of them.

  6. Nintendo Wii all the way,1 hell of an invention!……………..what is a PS3? never heard of it (chuckle, chuckle)

  7. It’s all about the software.

With a 100+ dollar ticket to get into Playstation Move (if you already have the console), it’s going to take one hell of a Move exclusive killer app to entice players to upgrade, let alone to buy the console just for Move.

With just 15 to 20 dollars to add Motion Plus to an existing Wii Remote to play an epic new Zelda built ground up for Wii, Nintendo will have a lot less convincing to do for their motion upgrade than Sony will for Move this holiday season.

  8. I’d rather pay $100 to have a “Non motion enabled” Zelda on the PS3 than get a free “Motion enabled” one for the Wii.

  9. I think this guy banks to hard in his Nintendo titles, sure they’re good but nintendo fails @ 3rd party.
FPS’s like MW2 just don’t work on the Wii, it’s future looks dim by comparison to the PS3 and current next gen leader the 360. (last statement not based on console sales, but overall usage online an offline and game attach rate)
nintendo better stop mouthing off and actually start bringing me tons of games I want to play. Not just a new Mario or Zelda every 2-3 years.

  11. AGREE’D! Even at that I wouldnt even buy a ps3 for the move maybe for god of war 3 but not no move. Move will = psp go which equals SONY FAIL. If Sony lowered ps3 again and psp go maybe they would actually get more sales. Also put fun NEW innovative exclusive ps3 games (and im not talking FPS, more action/adventures like god of war, or new RPGs like Tales of series) Also speaking about the tales of series, they need to step those graphics up and stop taking that anime outlook on games. Better graphics just make it more appealing to more ppl. The time for anime looking rpgs is done, realistic>fictional characters.

  12. I’m not buying a PS3. The only way I would get a PS3 is if they stopped making burnout games for Microsoft and Nintendo systems, because my Dad got me an X-Box 360 just because he wanted to keep up with the burnout series.

  13. Reggie is correct as an average consumer goes but motion ratchet would be dope – he is doing what he does best… Sell the Wii.

  14. PS3 is for a serious gamer. The motion control will probably be used for games that are rated M. Wii is a family console. Any serious gamer will easily find switching from a Wii to PS3 based only the games. The only thing Nintendo has going for it are games like Mario and Zelda that the kids can play. I wouldn’t be so confident, Nintendo.
