Nintendo: Nintendo President Says He’s “Not Satisfied” With Nintendo’s Online Efforts

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed that he is not completely satisfied with Nintendo’s online functionality.

“Of course, I have heard commentary that people feel that Nintendo’s online functionality is behind the others or is lacking in some ways.”

“And I can say that we are not currently satisfied with the online efforts that we have made so far, and we are working at ways to improve those. On the other hand, I do not think that online functionality is something that we should be devoting resources to for every single product.”

  1. MARIO PARTY 9.

Make it online. Make it LOADS better than the sorry excuse for Mario Party 8. The online possibilities with this game would be endless. It’s the perfect online game for families and friends that live in differenta areas. Allow for WIi-Speak compatibility. Bring back the classic mini-games, use what worked, get rid of what didn’t.

    1. We both know that Mario Party is gonna be discontinued with the announcement of Wii Party and, as a matter of fact, Hudson did a horrible job with the last Mario Party games.

  2. He isn’t the only one disappointed with Nintendo’s online efforts. The Wii has a terrible matchmaking service and most games require you to trade long codes with the other player before being able to play with them online. Nintendo has a long ways to go to catch up with Microsoft’s vastly superior Live service.

  3. I hope nintendo can bring it with their Online Services since it’s kinda difficult to connect with people with a large code to imput. It’s good don’t get me wrong, just wish it could be better and easier to play with people

  4. They need a Hard Drive like the PS3/360 for downloadable GCN Games, downloadable Movies, add-ons and y’know.

  5. The first thing Nintendo needs to do (and it’s been mentioned in these very comments…just not so much said) is ditch FC’s and run with a lobby. It was OK at first because it was something new, but now it’s just a dated, clunky idea. In an age where you had chat lobbies, game lobbies, etc. FC’s just come off as un-needed. A player really shouldn’t have to go to fan-made forum to find other people’s FC’s for a number of games and for their consoles. This kind of stuff should be already made available.

-Then- you worry about what games to put on. Party game is obvious, a Nintendo-oriented MMORPG would be king, another fighter, and a couple of generic shooters.

  6. Nintendo PLEASE get rid of the friend code things they suck, just let us friend people that we see online in game and not have to find them somewhere on our computer, and let us use the wii speak on any game you want. Then we will talk…

  7. There are alot of things that Nintendo could do to improve our online gaming experience. I just hope they change Friend Codes to Friend ID’s, with an account.

  8. What I would like to see is a Nintendo ID similar to a Gamertag or a PSN ID.
All online games will be listed under your Nintendo ID like in Steam and anyone who would like to play, say, Monster Hunter Tri would send you a invite message, which you would receive via Connect 24.
When you start the game you will be able to go into a lobby where other hunters are waiting and can chat with them right away, either with keyboard or Wii Speak. Another nice feature would be Cross Game Chat, meaning you could chat with somebody playing Brawl while still playing Monster Hunter Tri.
Just some ideas to improve the online experience.

  9. In order for Nintendo to compete with the leading Live service it would need a complete overhaul.

  10. the best thing about games is the “pick-up-and-play” mentality. Not everyone always has time to sit down with a game like Zelda for hours just to beat it. i think every game should come with some little quick on-the-go mode and online multiplayer is perfect for a quick little game like this that not everyone will have someone else to play with. nintendo needs to start incorporating more online features to unify all of their gamers.
